Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 Bayern Munich: Player ratings as Hansi Flick tastes defeat
By Max Parsons
Yet another goal from Robert Lewandowski was not enough to prevent Bayern Munich slipping to a surprise 2-1 defeat to high-flying Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
Hansi Flick's side have been leaking goals at an alarming rate of late, and they got off to another terrible start against Frankfurt as Daichi Kamada capitalised on a neat pull back from Filip Kostic to open the scoring.
Soon after, Frankfurt made it two, when Amin Younes' rocket effort arrowed past a helpless Manuer Neuer in the Bayern goal. The home side held onto their lead until half time, but the visitors fought back in the second half - with Lewandowski inevitably the man to grab the goal.
Fantastic footwork and a crisp cross from Leroy Sane gave the Pole the opportunity to tap in from close range, and he didn't disappoint - netting his 26th Bundesliga goal of the season in the process. But Bayern, like they so often do, couldn't find the all important equaliser and Frankfurt held out for a huge win in their push for Champions League qualification.
Let's get to the Bayern Munich player ratings...
1. Goalkeeper & Defenders
Manuel Neuer (GK) - 7/10 - Could do nothing about either goal in the first half, and made superb saves to deny Almamy Toure and Kostic.
Niklas Sule (RB) - 5/10 - Even if you've never seen Sule play, you could have guessed he was out of position. Struggled to cope with the pace of Kostic and Younes down the left, and was too weak for both goals in the first half.
Jerome Boateng (CB) - 6/10 - Made some important interventions in the box from crosses, racking up three interceptions and four clearances.
David Alaba (CB) - 6/10 - Did well to make a goal-saving block in the opening three minutes, but was uncharacteristically tepid throughout.
Alphonso Davies (LB) - 6/10 - So threatening on the front foot, using his pace to great effect and winning several corners on the left flank. He did, however, leave a lot of space in behnd and could easily have seen a penalty awarded against him.
2. Midfielders
Joshua Kimmich (CM) - 6/10 - Took a while to get into the game but eventually started to show his class, testing the keeper from long range a couple of times and making four key passes.
Marc Roca (CM) - 4/10 - Lost the ball on several occasions and barely got into the game before being sacrificed at half time. Sloppy.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (AM) - 4/10 - Was close to scoring with a lovely flick from a few yards out, but he's just not Bayern quality, is he?
3. Forwards
Leroy Sane (RW) - 7/10 - Grew into the game as time went on and grabbed a phenomenal assist for Bayern's goal - one of five key passes throughout.
Robert Lewnadowski (ST) - 6/10 - Wasn't given much service at all, but was at his clinical best to create space for himself and clip the ball home for Bayern's goal.
Kingsley Coman (LW) - 6/10 - Was bright down the left and put in several brilliantly testing crosses. Should have left the field with a goal, though, spurning a big chance at 2-1.
4. Substitutes
Leon Goretzka (CM) - 6/10 - Made an impact by picking up threatening spaces in the box but put his three chances wide of Kevin Trapp's goal.
Jamal Musiala (AM) - 5/10 - Instantly looked bright and creative but squandered a big chance as he headed over in the 88th minute.
Lucas Hernandez (LB) - 6/10
Javi Martinez (CM) - N/A
