England 0-0 Czech Republic: Player ratings as Lionesses draw frustrating blank
By Ali Rampling
England were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by the Czech Republic at the Amex on Tuesday evening.
Having gotten the better of world champions the USA four days earlier, the Lionesses twice hit the woodwork but could not find a way past a disciplined Czech Republic side.
Lauren James was handed her hotly anticipated full England debut, and almost marked the occasion with a goal inside four minutes. The Chelsea forward worked the chance herself with a fabulous step over, before cracking the post.
While James was making her maiden England start, Lucy Bronze was earning cap number 100. The right back embarked on one of her trademark marauds forward midway through the first half and picked out Chloe Kelly, who glanced a header narrowly wide.
But England didn't have everything their own way and looked exposed on the counter attack, needing a last ditch Alex Greenwood tackle to keep the scores level at the break.
Beth Mead saw an effort well saved after being exquisitely played in by Millie Bright early in the second half, and Lauren Hemp was denied by the post following a delicately dinked finish, but the Czech Republic held firm as the Lionesses drew a blank.
England (4-3-3)
GK: Mary Earps - 6/10 - Just the one comfortable save to make. Typically sound distribution.
RB: Lucy Bronze - 8/10 - Making her 100th appearance for her country, tore forward dangerously throughout and was in the thick of the action. Picked out Kelly with a particularly dangerous cross in the first half, from which England almost took the lead.
CB: Alex Greenwood - 7/10 - Popped up with a crucial last ditch tackle in the first half to keep out the Czech Republic, and made an important headed interception late on. Broke the lines well on a number of occasions with a selection of probing passes.
CB: Millie Bright (62' for Morgan) - 6/10 - Slid Mead in with a stunning floated pass in the second half. Tested defensively on a couple of occasions with the Czech Republic's pace in behind.
LB: Demi Stokes (82' for Daly) - 6/10 - Solid and dependable. Provided a dangerous cross from the left in the second half
CM: Keira Walsh - 6/10 - Typically tidy and efficient in possession, unable to unlock the Czech Republic's low defensive block.
CM: Ella Toone - 6/10 - Linked up well with Bronze and Kelly in the first half, just not quite able to unlock the resilient Czech Republic defence.
CM: Fran Kirby - 6/10 - Picked up the ball in pockets and drifted in between the lines. Denied by a finger tip save after working the space herself and trying her luck from range in the latter stages.
RW: Chloe Kelly (45' for Mead) - 6/10 - Linked up well with Bronze and Toone, and glanced a header narrowly wide before being replaced at half time.
ST: Lauren Hemp - 6/10 - Once again playing in a slightly unconventional striker role, headed just over early in the second half before seeing a delicate dink glance the post.
LW: Lauren James (62' for Salmon) - 8/10 - Making her full England debut, cracked the post inside four minutes after a fabulous step over. Oozed class, really lively, frequently demanded the ball.

SUB: Ebony Salmon (62' for James) - 6/10
