England's World Cup campaign kicks off with a match against Iran in the Khalifa International Stadium on Monday lunchtime.

The Three Lions have ongoing injury concerns over Kyle Walker and James Maddison, and both will miss out here after having their workloads in training carefully managed since the 26-player squad arrived in Qatar.

Here's the starting XI Gareth Southgate may send out in Doha this Monday to take on Iran, who will be well-versed to playing in stifling conditions.

GK: Jordan Pickford - Lee Pickford, Jordan's father, changed his surname from Pigford while he was still at school after being taunted by his classmates.

RB: Kieran Trippier - Across World Cup 2018 and Euro 2020, Trippier created more chances from set pieces than any other player (20).

CB: John Stones - Aside from the Golden Boot winner Harry Kane, Stones was the only other England player to score more than once at the 2018 World Cup (two goals against Panama).

CB: Harry Maguire - Only Raheem Sterling (22) had more touches in the opposition penalty area than Maguire (20) at the 2018 World Cup.

LB: Luke Shaw - When he trotted out in the group stage dead rubber against Costa Rica in 2014, the 18-year-old Shaw became the youngest England international at a World Cup since Michael Owen at France '98.

CM: Jude Bellingham - The much-debated 19-year-old hasn't missed a Bundesliga minute for Borussia Dortmund this season. Against Koln in October, Bellingham was captain despite being the youngest player in his team's starting XI.

CM: Declan Rice - Since the start of last season, no Premier League midfielder has made more interceptions than Rice (87).

AM: Mason Mount - This season, Mount has scored in as many England games as he has in Chelsea appearances (one).

RW: Bukayo Saka - England men's senior player of the year for the 2021/22 campaign can make some significant inroads into his bid for a second consecutive title with his performances this winter.

ST: Harry Kane - The Three Lions talisman is just one goal shy of overtaking Gary Lineker's national record for major tournament goals (ten).

LW: Raheem Sterling - England's second-top scorer at Euro 2020 hasn't found the net in a competitive international since September 2021.
