Who has qualified for Euro 2024?
- Germany had their involvement guaranteed as the host nation
- Italy are the defending champions
- All 24 teams are now confirmed
Qualification for Euro 2024 has reached its climax and we now know the 24 teams that'll be competing in Germany this summer.
Italy are the defending champions after beating England in a penalty shootout at Euro 2020, while the likes of France, Spain, Portugal and Germany will be among the favourites to go all the way.
Here are the 24 nations that have qualified for Euro 2024.
How did teams qualify for Euro 2024?
53 nations were divided into ten groups, with seven groups containing five teams and three containing six teams. Each team played everybody in their group home and away, with the winners and runners-up of each group advancing to the Euro 2024 finals.
The remaining three spots were decided via the play-offs. These took place in March 2024 with 12 teams taking part. These teams will be selected based on their performance in the 2022/23 Nations League, and, obviously, they mustn't have already qualified for the finals.
Who has qualified for Euro 2024?
1. Germany
Date qualified: 27 September 2018
Previous Euro appearances: 13 (1972, 1976, 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020)
As hosts, Germany were the only nation guaranteed a spot in this summer's finals. The three-time continental champions will be one of the only European nations to individually host a major men's international tournament for the foreseeable future after joint bids for the 2028 and 2032 Euros were agreed upon.
Amid the flurry of friendlies, Germany's preparations for their first home Euros since 1988 were derailed by the sacking of Hansi Flick in September 2023. The former Bayern Munich boss became the first coach in the history of the German men's national team to ever be forcibly removed.
2. France
Date qualified: 13 October 2023
Previous Euro appearances: 10 (1960, 1984, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020)
The inaugural hosts of the European Championships in 1960 have not missed the final stages of the continental tournament since 1988. Runners-up in 2016, Didier Deschamps will have another crack at winning a trophy he hoisted aloft as captain in 2000.
3. Portugal
Date qualified: 13 October 2023
Previous Euro appearances: 8 (1984, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020)
Portugal have not only appeared in the previous seven iterations of the Euros, but the Iberian over-performers have progressed beyond the group stage every time.
However, the 2020 pan-European jamboree was Portugal's worst performance during this qualifying stretch, exiting in the round of 16 against a Belgium side managed by Roberto Martinez, who is now at the helm of Portugal.
4. Belgium
Date qualified: 13 October 2023
Previous Euro appearances: 6 (1972, 1980, 1984, 2000, 2016, 2020)
Between 1984 and 2016, Belgium didn't qualify for a single European Championships. The Red Devils co-hosted with the Netherlands at the turn of the century but failed to progress beyond the group stage.
The so-called 'Golden Generation' - which is still searching for a medal better than bronze - may be on the wane but the team captained by Romelu Lukaku breezed through a group containing Sweden and a resurgent Austria.
5. Spain
Date qualified: 15 October 2023
Previous Euro appearances: 11 (1964, 1980, 1984, 1988, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020)
Despite the turmoil that seeped into every crevice of the Spanish FA during Luis Rubiales' painfully drawn-out resignation, La Roja qualified for their eighth Euros on the spin.
Defeat to Scotland in Luis de la Fuente's second match in charge didn't augur well but the Nations League champions managed to extract some punch from their monopoly of possession, with the forever forlorn figure of Alvaro Morata emerging as an unlikely leader.
6. Scotland
Date qualified: 15 October 2023
Previous Euro appearances: 3 (1992, 1996, 2020)
For the third time, Scotland celebrated qualification for the European Championship finals in absentia. Spain's narrow win against Norway in October confirmed Scotland's spot in Germany.
Steve Clarke will lead his nation into the tournament inspired by ambitions of improving upon their display at Euro 2020, which ended at the group stage after one point and as many goals.
7. Turkey
Date qualified: 15 October 2023
Previous Euro appearances: 5 (1996, 2000, 2008, 2016, 2020)
After the disaster of Euro 2020, former Germany international Stefan Kuntz was airlifted in to save everyone's favourite dark horses. Kuntz only lasted five qualifying matches before the Turkish FA dived back into their 1990s sticker book collection and appointed Vincenzo Montella.
Qualification was secured in Montella's second game at the helm with a 4-0 blitz of Latvia.
8. Austria
Date qualified: 16 October 2023
Previous Euro appearances: 3 (2008, 2016, 2020)
If further proof of the virus that envelops any Manchester United employee was needed, Ralf Rangnick's resurgence as Austria manager after leaving Old Trafford provides it.
The former Red Devils boss endured a shakey adjustment period while overhauling Austria's playing style but has reaped the rewards during a commanding qualification process.
9. England
Date qualified: 17 October 2023
Previous Euro appearances: 10 (1968, 1980, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2012, 2016, 2020)
England cantered through Group C and booked their place at the Euros thanks to a 3-1 win over Italy at Wembley.
Gareth Southgate's side made it all the way to the final in the previous European Championships and will be among the favourites to go all the way this time around.
10. Hungary
Date qualified: 16 November 2023
Previous Euro appearances: 4 (1964, 1972, 2016, 2020)
Hungary's fiery and dramatic encounter with Bulgaria saw them qualify for Euro 2024, Alex Petkov's 97th-minute own goal handing Hungary a 2-2 draw after both sides had players sent off.
Dominik Szoboszlai's side have made it to their fifth European Championships and will be aiming to cause some upsets.
11. Slovakia
Date qualified: 16 November 2023
Previous Euro appearances: 2 (2016, 2020)
Since becoming a sovereign nation, Slovakia have qualified for just two Euros, but they are now set to make their third successive appearance at the tournament.
Slovakia qualified behind group winners Portugal after beating Iceland 4-2 in their penultimate qualification match.
12. Albania
Date qualified: 17 November 2023
Previous Euro appearances: 1 (2016)
Albania were not the favourites to be the first qualified team from Group E, but a 1-1 draw with Moldova in their seventh game secured their spot at next summer's tournament.
In a tricky group that contains Poland and Czechia, Sylvinho's side have qualified for only their second major tournament. Having been knocked out of the group stage back in 2016, Albania will be hoping to make it to the knockout stages in 2024.
13. Denmark
Date qualified: 17 November 2023
Previous Euro appearances: 9 (1964, 1984, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2012, 2020)
Denmark's passage to Euro 2024 proved surprisingly difficult, with Slovenia, Kazakhstan and Finland causing the 1992 European champions plenty of issues.
However, a 2-1 victory over Slovenia in their penultimate group stage match has booked their place at the tournament.
14. Netherlands
Date qualified: 18 November 2023
Previous Euro appearances: 10 (1976, 1980, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2020)
The last time the Euros were held on German soil, Ronald Koeman celebrated a victory over the hosts in the semi-finals by pretending to wipe his backside with Olaf Thon's West Germany shirt.
Four decades on, Koeman will return to the scene of a hotly provocative act as manager of the Dutch national team.
15. Romania
Date qualified: 18 November 2023
Previous Euro appearances: 5 (1984, 1996, 2000, 2008, 2016)
Romania became the first host nation to miss out on their own championships by failing to qualify for the multi-country spectacle that was Euro 2020.
Edward Iordanescu has ensured that Romania will be involved in this summer's continental jamboree by steering his nation into one of the top two spots in Group I.
16. Switzerland
Date qualified: 18 November 2023
Previous Euro appearances: 5 (1996, 2004, 2008, 2016, 2020)
Since narrowly missing out on Euro 2012, Switzerland have not only qualified for every major international tournament but made it out of the group stage. They will have the chance to continue that impressive streak this summer.
17. Serbia
Date qualified: 19 November 2023
Previous Euro appearances: 0
Serbia have qualified for the Euros as their own entity for the very first time.
Both Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro have taken part in this competition, but since Serbia split from Montenegro in 2006, they failed to qualify for Euro 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020.
Serbia sealed their place at next summer's tournament with a point against Bulgaria which sees them qualify alongside table-toppers Hungary in Group G.

Czechia threatened to provide one of the upset stories of Euro 2020 with the goals of Patrik Schick making them a threat, but the journey came to an end at quarter-final stage.
They managed to snuff out the slim hopes both Poland and Moldova had of coming second behind Albania with a 3-0 win over Moldova on the final matchday of group stage qualifying.
19. Italy
Date qualified: 20 November 2023
Previous Euro appearances: 10 (1968, 1980, 1988, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020)
Italy have been known to put their nation's supporters through every emotion during qualifiers, but they produced a performance filled with steel with it mattered most.
The goalless draw with Ukraine in Leverkusen meant the Azzurri took second place in Group C on head-to-head record and ensured they will defend the title they won back in 2021 after not reaching the 2022 World Cup.
20. Slovenia
Date qualified: 20 November 2023
Previous Euro appearances: 1 (2000)
Slovenia aren't regulars at the Euros and will compete in the finals of the tournament for just the second time after coming through Group H with seven wins and a draw from ten games.

Why Germany have already qualified for Euro 2024
Germany have qualified for Euro 2024 as tournament hosts. The nation was selected to host on 27 September 2018, having previously planned to host the multi-country Euro 2020, which took place in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
