Everton 2-2 Tottenham: Player ratings as Toffees snatch point in stoppage time

Jarrad Branthwaite produced a 95th-minute equaliser to earn Everton a 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday.

Richarlison came back to haunt his former employers, executing two wonderful finishes to give Spurs a first-half lead despite Jack Harrison's fortuitous goal after half-an-hour.

Everton huffed and puffed in the second half as Tottenham also sought a third on the break, but the hosts eventually grabbed an equaliser in stoppage-time after Branthwaite's header levelled proceedings late on.

How the game unfolded

It took just four minutes for the inevitable to happen at Goodison Park, former Everton forward Richarlison netting against the Toffees to give Tottenham the lead. Destiny Udogie picked him out with a lovely cutback from the left-hand side and the Brazilian lifted a fine finish above Jordan Pickford to continue his rich vein of form.

Everton did their best to respond with pressure on the Tottenham goal, putting ball after ball into the penalty area. While the majority lacked quality, the hosts eventually found an equaliser from a corner whipped to the far post and redirected across goal by James Tarkowski, with Calvert-Lewin's header brushing off teammate Harrison on its way in. Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario wanted a free kick after a nudge from Harrison, but Michael Oliver waved appeals away.

However, Tottenham would restore their advantage just four minutes before half-time, and it was unsurprisingly Richarlison who bagged his brace. James Maddison's quick feet teed the striker up on the edge of the area and he curled a beautiful effort beyond Pickford to double his tally.

Ben Godfrey almost equalised once more for the hosts but his header was rebuffed from close range by Vicario, who proceeded to swipe the ball away from the feet of Harrison to keep Spurs ahead at the break.

Pedro Porro stung Pickford's palms shortly after half-time as Spurs looked to increase their cushion, while Maddison also forced a save out of the Everton goalkeeper with a thunderous left-footed strike from the edge of the box.

Richarlison almost grabbed his hat-trick with 20 minutes to play but Pickford was there to deny his old teammate with an instinctive stop.

However, it was Branthwaite who produced the decisive moment in the second half, nodding home an equaliser at the far post from a free kick in the fifth minute of stoppage time - a result that moves Everton out of the relegation zone.

GK: Jordan Pickford - 6/10 - Some shaky moments with the ball at his feet, punting it out of play on several occasions under pressure. Made some good stops, however.

RB: Ben Godfrey - 6/10 - An important intervention to deny Maddison in the second half and could have netted himself if it wasn't for a smart stop from Vicario

CB: James Tarkowski - 7/10 - Everton's leader at the back and wasn't bypassed too easily by an impressive Tottenham front line.

CB: Jarrad Branthwaite - 7/10 - Lost Richarlison for Spurs' opener but more than made amends with his late header.

LB: Vitaliy Mykolenko - 6/10 - A decent if unspectacular defensive display. Made some promising runs beyond Dwight McNeil down the left.

RM: Ashley Young - 6/10 - The 38-year-old couldn't offer any real threat or width to the hosts, while he struggled to contain Udogie's forward runs at the other end.

CM: Idrissa Gueye - 7/10 - Fiery in the challenge and was there to put out fires for the hosts. Recovered the ball frequently and did his best to cope with the tricky Maddison.

CM: James Garner - 7/10 - Some neat touches in the Tottenham half and orchestrated a number of openings for Everton.

LM: Dwight McNeil - 6/10 - Picked up plenty of good positions and wasn't shy in putting the ball in the box, but he was a little wayward in his passing.

AM: Jack Harrison - 7/10 - The attacker somehow came away from Goodison Park with a goal after Calvert-Lewin's header brushed him on the way in. Was a menace at corners as he man-marked Vicario.

ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin - 6/10 - Unfortunate not to have ended his goalless run but Spurs' centre-backs didn't give him a yard in open play.

Sean Dyche - 7/10 - His Everton side competed with Tottenham for large chunks and showed great determination to earn a late point. Exactly the kind of result the Toffees needed.

GK: Guglielmo Vicario - 5/10 - Pinned to his line from Everton corners and the Italian couldn't cope, flapping at each delivery into the box. One smart save from Godfrey's header but not his most convincing display, with teams likely to target him at set pieces moving forward.

RB: Pedro Porro - 7/10 - A little more reserved than his fellow full-back Udogie, although he did see one stinging effort saved by Pickford. Very tidy with the ball at his feet and generally covered well regarding crosses into the box.

CB: Cristian Romero - 6/10 - Managed to control his emotions in what was sometimes a feisty affair. However, his late flick-on led to Everton's leveller, even if it was slightly unfortunate.

CB: Micky van de Ven - 8/10 - Frequently exhibited his recovery pace following balls in behind the Spurs defence and was simply impenetrable.

LB: Destiny Udogie - 8/10 - Always a threat as he bombed down the left flank with blistering pace. Dyche's decision to play Young on the right of midfield was likely made to stifle his creativity, but the Italian came away with an assist regardless.

CM: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg - 6/10 - Enjoyed a ferocious battle in midfield and put his body about well.

CM: Rodrigo Bentancur - 6/10 - Composed in possession and helped Spurs recycle the ball. The midfielder's influence waned as he tired later in the game.

RM: Brennan Johnson - 5/10 - Didn't get much joy up against Mykolenko and hardly had a kick all afternoon.

AM: James Maddison - 8/10 - Spurs are relieved to have his creativity back and that was evident in his side's second goal, the midfielder's sharp feet setting up Richarlison on the edge of the box. Increasingly influential as the game wore on.

LM: Timo Werner - 6/10 - Offered an out ball on the left wing in the second half but his end product often didn't match his blistering pace.

ST: Richarlison - 9/10 - Amazing what confidence can do to a player as the former Toffee finished produced two excellent finishes in the first half. A superb showing returning to Goodison Park with some fantastic centre-forward play.
