That's it then, is it? The old 2021/22 Premier League season on the scrapheap?

While we have to wait another long summer until the next domestic season, Sunday saw the English top flight sign off in style with goals and drama galore.

Manchester City eventually wrestled past Aston Villa to secure a fourth Premier League title in five seasons, consigning Liverpool to second place. Tottenham bagged fourth thanks to their thumping of Norwich, while Leeds pulled off a miraculous escape to ensure Burnley were relegated to the Championship.

So, for one final time, let's go over every team's best player from the last gameweek of the season.

Arsenal - Martin Odegaard (9/10) vs Everton

What we said: "Found good spaces between the lines to pull creative strings. The cherry on top of his performance was his exceptionally composed goal near the end."

Aston Villa - Philippe Coutinho (8/10) vs Manchester City

What we said: "Brilliant finish for second goal and could not do much more for Liverpool on the day."

Brentford - Christian Eriksen (7/10) vs Leeds

What we said: "Pinged a series of perfectly-weighted passes across the pitch in what could have been his final game for Brentford."

Brighton - Pascal Gross (9/10) vs West Ham

What we said: "Awesome swivel and turn to beat the defender before firing in the winner from the edge of the box."

Burnley - Josh Brownhill (6/10) vs Newcastle

What we said: "Did not stop working for his side and proved the hosts' best performer. Definitely shouldn't be playing second-tier football next term."

Chelsea - Kai Havertz (7/10) vs Watford

What we said: "Started brightly and couldn't miss from Kenedy's cross. Ran hard all game."

Crystal Palace - Joel Ward (8/10) vs Manchester United

What we said: "Stepped in for the injured Marc Guehi and did not miss a beat. Distribution may not be as good but he's a great defender as evidenced by one great recovery tackle to deny Hannibal."

Everton - Donny van de Beek (6/10) vs Arsenal

What we said: "Got into a good position to score and was an improvement on Doucoure."

Leeds - Kalvin Phillips (9/10) vs Brentford

What we said: "Wow. A reminder that if Phillips had been fit all season Leeds wouldn't have been in this situation. Won the ball back and redistributed it perfectly."

Leicester - Ayoze Perez (8/10) vs Southampton

What we said: "Showed far more skill and confidence than his 15-month goal drought may have suggested."

Liverpool - Sadio Mane (7/10) vs Wolves

What we said: "A real danger. Got through on goal with frequency. Took his goal well and wasn't far off a nice second."

Manchester City - Ilkay Gundogan (10/10) vs Aston Villa

What we said: "Two goals from the German, remarkable stuff."

Manchester United - Alex Telles (6/10) vs Crystal Palace

What we said: "Burst forward a couple of times. Dealt with Palace's young full debutant easily."

Newcastle - Callum Wilson (8/10) vs Burnley

What we said: "Visibly felt no pressure to notch the opener from 12 yards and condemned the opposition to the Championship with a simple second."

Norwich - Max Aarons (7/10) vs Tottenham

What we said: "One of the few Norwich players to emerge with credit, shutting down Spurs' attacking threat down the left-hand side. Heroic sliding challenge to deny Son in the second half."

Southampton - Stuart Armstrong (6/10) vs Leicester

What we said: "Jinked inside the box and bought the penalty cleverly."

Tottenham - Dejan Kulusevski (9/10) vs Norwich

What we said: "Perfectly positioned to tap home from Bentancur's pull back, often looking a real threat in transition with his pace and power."

Watford - Dan Gosling (7/10) vs Chelsea

What we said: "Essentially one touch, one goal off the bench!"

West Ham - Declan Rice (7/10) vs Brighton

What we said: "Always busy and one of the few West Ham players who didn't look leggy. Mopped up well."

Wolves - Pedro Neto (7/10) vs Liverpool

What we said: "Only on for 21 minutes before going down with an injury but absolutely tormented Liverpool when he was on. Looked set for a 10/10."
