Everybody Loves Adama Traore - Season Highlights
By Stephen Jones
Contrary to popular belief, everybody does not love Raymond; they love Adama Traore.
Imagine for a moment that you're a Premier League full-back - it's lovely playing football with friends, and you're getting paid £60,000 a week for your troubles.
Wait a minute...what's that in the distance?
(Jim Ross voice) Good gawd almighty! It's Adama Traore!
Traore arguably already reached the summit of the footballing world by playing for Barcelona (just the four times). But it was never meant to happen for the burly winger in Spain, and he found himself at Aston Villa by the summer of 2015.
Fast forward five turbulent years, and you'll find the 24-year-old playing some of the best football of his career for Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Spaniard is in the process of creating a cult following at Molineux, and is quickly becoming one of Nuno Espírito Santo's most essential players.
At stages in his career, it felt like Traore was never going to reach his full potential, but throughout this season, the Wolves winger has proved his doubters wrong.
Everybody loves Traore because he defies the laws of football - you take one look at him, and you immediately think he's more suited to being a rugby player. But Traore doesn't need to convince anyone that he can play football.
He has become one of the best dribblers of the ball in world football, mixing his lightning speed with brute force, managing to get past almost any opponent that dares get in his way.
Traore on average goes past a player 5.17 times per game. And yet he's been putting up numbers like this for years - in 2018, Traore completed 30 more dribbles than the entire Burnley squad.
Traore has developed as a player this season, starting to add end product to his game. Sometimes this comes in the form of a goal, pass, or a challenge - the main thing is that he is continually improving. But his goal and assist tallies are all that's stopping him from becoming a true star.
Sometimes you'll watch a Wolves game and Traore will have five players surrounding him trying anything to stop him. But it's simply that opposition players don't want to be embarrassed by him, and they often commit fouls to halt his momentum.
But fouling Traore will not stop him - he will only come back for more and more.
This season has seen Traore graduate from 'unreliable' to 'unplayable'. The 24-year-old has put in some career-defining performances, and elite teams from all across Europe are being linked with him.
A special moment for Wolves this season was their league double over defending Premier League champions Manchester City. The man at the forefront of these victories was Mr Muscle himself.
In October, Traore scored both of Wolves goals as they beat City 2-0. Later in the season, he scored and assisted in a 3-2 win as Wolves became only the second team to do the league double over a Pep Guardiola side.
This man is capable of special moments, and he has shown that this season.
Everybody loves Adama Traore because he never gives up and it's that fighting mentality that will take him to the very top.
