San Diego FC is set to become the 30th team in Major League Soccer in 2025, and the club already has big plans for their first season in the MLS.

The MLS is no stranger to expansion teams. The league originally only consisted of 10 teams, including the reigning MLS Cup Champions, Columbus Crew, before it continually expanded with more and more clubs throughout the last three decades. As of the 2023/24 season, the MLS contains 29 teams.

By this time next year, though, San Diego FC will be in the middle of their first MLS season, competing in the Western Conference. Although there are a lot of unknowns still surrounding the club, there have been recent, exciting developments that give great insight into the future of San Diego FC.

San Diego FC Crest and Colors

One year ahead of when San Diego FC will play their inaugural MLS season, the club revealed their colors and crest at Snapdragon Stadium, where they will play all their home matches moving forward. Highlighted in Chrome and Azul,“The Flow” crest features 18 lines that represent the 18 communities of San Diego County.

"We believe our crest truly reflects the essence and spirit of San Diego," said Tom Penn, CEO of San Diego FC. "Our club strives to become the epicenter of football excellence and innovation in North America."

San Diego FC Roster

Beyond designing their brand and creating their identity, San Diego FC is working on building their roster. The club signed forward Marcus Ingvartsen and defensive midfielder Jeppe Tverskov from FC Nordsjaelland in Demark back in March, as well as Duran Ferree, a 17 year old goalkeeper from San Diego.

San Diego FC Right to Dream Academy

Despite not having a head coach just yet, the club has big plans to become the "Ajax of North America" as they construct the Right to Dream Academy to develop young players from both the United States and Mexico.

“Just think of the opportunity to co-mingle, co-mix the best kids from Tijuana with the best kids from Southern California, and then empower them with the best education, the best character development, and the best football development, which is what Right To Dream does, and you start looking where no one else is looking,” Penn said on Offside with Taylor Twellman.

In fact, San Diego FC just signed a five-year partnership with Liga MX’s Club Tijuana that includes an annual friendly match between the two sides that will be played at Snapdragon Stadium.
