Real Madrid have confirmed that midfielder Federico Valverde has signed a new contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.

As 90min revealed last month, Valverde agreed fresh terms as part of a major contract drive which has seen a number of top stars ink fresh terms in recent weeks.

Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Eduardo Camavinga have all extended their deals and now Valverde has followed suit by agreeing a new deal to tie himself to Madrid until 2029.

90min understands centre-back Eder Militao will be the next player to sign a new contract with Carlo Ancelotti's side. An agreement in prinicple has been reached with the Brazilian, whose current deal expires in 2025.

Valverde was the subject of enquiries from a number of Premier League sides during the summer after Madrid signed Jude Bellingham, with the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City all hoping the Englishman's arrival could see Valverde made available for transfer.

Neither Madrid nor Valverde were interested in entertaining the interest, however, and he remains a key cog in the team's midfield.

Indeed, Valverde recently confirmed his desire to become Madrid captain in the near future.

"Yes, obviously," he said when asked if he would like to wear the armband. "I think that’s a dream that I’ve had.

"I’d love to be that figure that [Dani] Carvajal currently is and all those who are captains, [Luka] Modric and [Toni] Kroos. I try to watch them and learn as much as possible from them about what they do. One of the most beautiful moments for me was being Uruguay captain and now I’d love to do so with Real Madrid."
