Fidel Ambriz reveals Club Leon "never stopped believing" in CCL triumph
Club Leon midfielder Fidel Ambriz was full of joy following his team's CONCACAF Champions League final second-leg victory over LAFC.
Despite LAFC being favorites in the tie, Leon were undoubtedly the better team over the two legs. Leon's CCL triumph is the 37th time a Liga MX team has won the competition, with their teams winning 16 consecutive times before the Seattle Sounders won it in 2022.
"I can't even speak, the truth is a very special day for me, I am very happy and happy to achieve this with the team from my city, they deserve it, my teammates, the institution, today we are breaking our head to be champions," Ambriz said.
The 20-year-old started both legs and was key in the middle of the park in limiting LAFC's opportunities going forward. He scored once in the CCL this season and three times in Leon's 2022/23 Liga MX campaign.
Amrbiz's believed that Leon were able to triumph over LAFC due to their tight-knit squad and the sense that they wanted the coveted trophy more than the opposition.
"We loved her [the CCL] more, that focus and concentration were there and we never stopped believing. Great things, this team is up for a lot, we owed ourselves this, we'll think about the Club World Cup, today we have to celebrate."
Los Verdiblancos will compete in the Club World Cup for the first time in club history this December.
