MLS is a league that’s always looking to grow.

One way to get eyes on screens is by getting big stars to come to the league. With the new Apple TV in full swing, there would be nothing wiser than to bring over more word class talent to move the needle. While MLS has recently done a great job of shaking off the “retirement home” label, these five stars would be more than welcomed additions to the league...

5. Jesse Lingard

Jesse Lingard would be an excellent addition to any MLS team willing to take a chance on him.

Though he may not quite have the star power compared to other names on the list, his skill set could bloom in an attacking league like MLS. Once linked to a move to DC United, it only seems a matter of time before Lingard makes the jump overseas.

4. Isco

At one point in his career, Isco was one of the best young talents in his position. At just 30 years old, however, the Spaniard finds himself without a team.

MLS is a league where creative, technically gifted #10s thrive. Isco would be an ideal addition to any team that desperately needs a creator in the middle of the field. He was once linked to a move to the LA Galaxy, but nothing has come to fruition from the rumors.

3. Roberto Firmino

Robert Firmino recently announced that he would be leaving Liverpool after an eight-year stint with the club. It wasn’t long after that till the MLS rumors started to grow.

St. Louis City appears to be interested in the Brazilian, and there’s a chance that they could land him. Firmino worked with the current St. Louis sporting director Lutz Pfannestiel when he was at Hoffenheim.

Their working relationship could see the 31-year-old make the jump to MLS.

2. Sergio Busquets

Sergio Busquets is one of the best defensive midfielders of his generation. It’s only natural that a team like Inter Miami would like him on his roster. With his contract expiring in the summer, the former Spain international will have plenty of suitors.

Miami looks the most likely, having made an offer for the Spanish player, but there’s also a chance he play in Saudi Arabia. Whatever Busquets decides, he would be a welcomed addition to the league.

1. Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi is the biggest name on this list linked to MLS.

As his contract continues to wind down, the Argentina international has to make a decision as to where he will be playing his soccer in the future. Inter Miami has pursued him since its inception; however, it will be difficult due to Messi’s desire to stay in Europe and his enormous salary.

But, if the Herons manage to get the deal over the line, it will be the biggest signing in the history of the league, surpassing the likes of Didier Drogba, Thierry Henry, and even David Beckham.

He's been linked to the team in the past, with head coach Phil Neville admiting to active recruitement efforts. 90min previously reported on contract negotiations, detailing the possible arrival of the World Cup champion.
