Gameweek 22 of fantasy football finished *checks notes* on Thursday, and gameweek 23 starts on *checks notes again* Saturday - so just a bog standard week of 2020/21 Fantasy Premier League then, eh?

While you may still be digesting the news that Mohamed Salah is no longer a home banker captain against teams fighting against relegation, it's time to put that disappointment behind you, dust yourself down and get ready to go again.

Fortunately, the stresses and strains of picking the right captain are no longer a burden you need to shoulder alone, as 90min is here to provide you with five hot picks for this week - but no complaining if it all goes wrong though, got it?

5. Ebere Eze

Crystal Palace star Ebere Eze would be a call from left field to be your FPL captain this week, but the 22-year-old has emerged as the Eagles’ star man and has got 18 points over the last two games.

This weekend, Palace face a Leeds side that has the second worst defensive record in the entire Premier League. Leeds haven’t had a clean sheet since December and even if Palace don’t win at Elland Road there are goals to be scored. Chances are, Eze will have some hand in them.

4. Callum Wilson

It all depends how you expect Southampton to respond from getting utterly battered 9-0 in midweek. But Callum Wilson, who is this season’s fourth highest scoring FPL forward, could be back in the goals for Newcastle against the Saints.

Wilson has had a direct goal involvement in his last three Premier League appearances, even though Newcastle have lost two of those games, and is in good form after overcoming a poor patch.

3. Ilkay Gundogan

Ilkay Gundogan has been pulling the string for Manchester City of late in his best spell of form since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund in 2016.

The German has managed a goal or assist in seven of City’s last nine Premier League games and they now face a Liverpool side in defensive disarray. The Reds will either have a patched up defence with midfielders and youngsters or throw at least one of the new signings in at the deep end.

2. Son Heung-min

Son Heung-min is the second highest scoring midfielder in FPL this season and, with Harry Kane not expected to return this weekend, he is Tottenham’s chief source of goals and creativity.

Spurs haven’t been in the best form, but on Sunday they host a West Brom side that is 10 points adrift of safety and has conceded two or more goals in seven consecutive Premier League games, as well as having leaked 14 more goals than the next worst defence in the division.

1. Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United stormed back to winning way in a Premier League record equalling victory against Southampton, with Bruno Fernandes getting 17 FPL points to match his best game tally for the season so far.

United’s confidence should be buoyed by the 9-0 rout after a lacklustre couple of games before that, even though they’re up against a threatening Everton side. Fernandes also has a good record against the Toffees because he got 17 points when he faced them in gameweek eight.
