We’ve seen moves for midfielders dominating the transfer market this week, with three of the top five player transfers being midfielders and four of the top five among the most sold. An early substitution for Bukayo Saka last weekend has amplified the situation.
With a plethora of options at our disposal, which ones should be the priority? With just two gameweeks to go until unlimited transfers for the World Cup break, we pick the very best options ahead of FPL Gameweek 10.
Miguel Almiron vs Southampton (A)
Miguel Almiron is becoming difficult to ignore: he’s scored more FPL points (57) than any other player since the international break. He’s also the top form player, having delivered four double-digit returns in this spell, with six goals and one assist. He’s currently making a mockery of his £5.6m price tag.
This is a breakthrough season for Almiron, eclipsing his attacking return tally in recent seasons. However, we’ve seen Newcastle United much improved under Eddie Howe and his underlying numbers are sound too: he sits fourth for shots among all players in the last six gameweeks, with 21.
Leandro Trossard vs Wolves (A)
Trossard’s goalscoring form has continued in recent games, with five goals in his last six. He’s now scored in consecutive games and sits top for shots in the box among midfielders in the last six games, with 19. He also sits second for shots on target in this period, having registered 12 shots on his opponents' goal.
Brighton have produced some impressive performances in recent games, including a 3-3 against Liverpool and beating Graham Potter’s Chelsea 4-1 last time out. They now travel to Wolves who have conceded more goals (12) in the last six gameweeks than any other club. Leicester City beat them 4-0 in their most recent home game.
Marcus Rashford vs Aston Villa (A)
Rashford has been going quietly under the radar this season, but popped up with his 100th goal for Manchester United against West Ham last weekend, taking him up to four Premier League goals for the season. He’s ranked fourth for shots in the box (11) among midfielders in the last six gameweeks, converting one goal from five big chances.
His appeal lies in the remaining fixtures for United before the World Cup break, with away trips to Aston Villa and Fulham. Fulham have conceded more big chances (22) than any other side over the last six, while Aston Villa are ranked fifth for big chances conceded, with 15.
