The biggest decision for each new Fantasy Premier League gameweek is which player to trust with the captain armband and this season we have a plethora of options with Erling Haaland and Gabriel Jesus fresh faces in the frame.
This decision is even more challenging ahead of Gameweek 3 with Liverpool facing an out of form Manchester United side, Spurs hosting Wolves and Arsenal travelling to promoted Bournemouth. Here’s the best options to select.
Mohamed Salah vs Manchester United (A)
We’ve seen plenty of potential from Mo Salah in the opening two gameweeks, but managers will have been disappointed to see him fail to deliver the goods against Crystal Palace on Monday. He’s still posting some solid numbers though with nine key passes and five shots. He has a goal and an assist and is on penalties for Liverpool.
The fixture this week couldn’t get much better: a trip to Old Trafford to face bottom of the table Manchester United, who have conceded a league high six goals this season. Salah has nine goals from ten appearances against the Red Devils in all competitions and scored a hat-trick in this fixture last season, which ended 5-0 in Liverpool’s favour.
Gabriel Jesus vs Bournemouth (A)
After a disappointing Gameweek 1, Jesus delivered a signature performance in his Emirates debut, with a massive four goal involvements. His tally of 19 fantasy points is a target which will be difficult to beat this season and encouragingly his underlying numbers were very solid too: top for shots in the box (7) and big chances (3).
It’s clear that he’s a different player this season in this Arsenal side who should be challenging for the top four places this season. Next up it’s a trip to Bournemouth, who have conceded 34 shots on goal in their opening two games; only Nottingham Forest have conceded a bigger tally. The Cherries conceded four goals to Manchester City last weekend.
Harry Kane vs Wolves (H)
With Manchester City travelling to a Newcastle United side who haven’t conceded yet this season, we look towards Spurs for the final captain pick, with Kane having the edge on the underlying numbers. He has had two big chances this season, while also creating two big chances for his team-mates.
Spurs host Wolves, having already scored four past Southampton on home turf in Gameweek 1. Wolves have conceded two goals in two games this season and have conceded eight headed attempts: we know set-pieces are an area Spurs are working on after signing a new specialist coach for this season.
