The captaincy race remains open in FPL Gameweek 23 as uncertainty surrounds the minutes of premium Manchester City players who are returning from injury.
Kevin De Bruyne is back and assisting once again, scoring points in the 3-1 win over Burnley in midweek, but assets away from the treble winners are also worth considering for the armband this weekend.
In conjunction with Fantasy Football Hub's powerful AI Points Predictions tool, here are the top captain picks for FPL Gameweek 23.
Bukayo Saka
- Fixture: Liverpool (H); Predicted Points: 6.0
It may raise some eyebrows to see Bukayo Saka leading the way ahead of the visit of Liverpool, but Arsenal's talisman does have the recent form, scoring two goals in the last four gameweeks. The Gunners come into this one with two consecutive wins, netting seven times.
Saka's underlying numbers are also very encouraging, ranking top among midfielders for shots over the last four gameweeks with 20. He's also third for key passes with 13 and, with penalties also in his locker, there's plenty of possible routes to fantasy returns.
Anthony Gordon
- Fixture: Luton Town (H); Predicted Points: 6.0
Newcastle United have arguably the fixture of the gameweek when they entertain Luton Town, placing Anthony Gordon high in the captaincy conversation. He could play out of position as a forward in this game, with teammate Alexander Isak flagged with injury.
Gordon has enjoyed playing at home this season, with 11 of his 14 goal involvements coming at St James' Park from 11 appearances. Luton have struggled defensively on the road and are without a clean sheet away from home this season.
Ollie Watkins
- Fixture: Sheffield United (A); Predicted Points: 4.9
Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins has been one of the most consistent fantasy performers this campaign, delivering 21 attacking returns in 22 appearances. He regularly completes 90 minutes and is able to amass points through both his goal and assist threat.
Watkins has the recent form too, with one goal and two assists in his last four games having registered nine shots in the box. Villa travel to bottom of the table Sheffield United who are without a clean sheet in their last six games.
