The captaincy race for Gameweek 29 is wide open, with 12 sides on the double. The fact Erling Haaland has a single gameweek and is flagged with a groin injury makes this far more interesting.
So who are the best candidates?
Marcus Rashford vs Newcastle United (A) & Brentford (H)
The only reason fantasy managers aren’t fully locked in on Marcus Rashford as their captain is that he’s currently yellow flagged with a knock, having missed England duty over the international break.
He's expected to be available for Double Gameweek 29 to continue the run of form which has made him the highest scoring fantasy asset since the restart.
In the most recent seven gameweeks, Rashford is ranked second for shots in the box with 17, converting seven big chances to five goals. While Manchester United are weakened by the absence of Casemiro through suspension, it shouldn’t impact Rashford’s supreme attacking threat right now. Rashford accumulated 20 points across DGW 22.
Kaoru Mitoma vs Brentford (H) & Bournemouth (A)
Brighton are a side in form, scoring eight goals in their last four league games, with winger Kaoru Mitoma involved in half of those; one goal and three assists. We know a Brighton midfielder will deliver a huge score in Gameweek 29, but pinpointing which one is more of a challenge.
However, Mitoma is winning the ownership race.
The Japan international has the pedigree in previous fixtures, with a goal against Bournemouth for 11 points back in Gameweek 22. In his double in Gameweek 27, Mitoma amassed a score of 12 points across the two fixtures. Opponents Brentford have just one clean sheet in their last six games, while Bournemouth have conceded ten goals in their last four league games.
Bruno Fernandes vs Newcastle United (A) & Brentford (H)
Man Utd are winning the captain race in terms of the appeal of backing a premium player, and with some concerns lingering over Rashford’s fitness, the alternative could be backing team-mate Bruno Fernandes who is on penalties. He has two assists in the last four gameweeks.
Fernandes has an excellent track record in FPL double gameweeks, scoring 19 points in DGW 20 with two goals and 12 points in DGW 22 with a goal. Fernandes has registered 12 chances created in the last five gameweeks, with five big chances created.
