While fantasy managers spend hours of pre-season scouting for value picks, they only really come to fruition during the first few weeks of the season. This campaign feels more than ever like there’s some fantastic players providing value.

The kind pricing for FPL this season means that we can largely construct our squads of players from Manchester City and Liverpool, with our fringe players allowing us to exploit kind runs of fixtures. So which options have caught the eye?

Neco Williams vs Everton (A)

Neco Williams remains the cheapest price in the game (£4.0m), despite already picking up his first clean sheet of the season. He plays as an attacking wing-back and has already impressed his owners with five shots on goal, including three in the box and three key passes.

No other defender has had more shots on goal than WIlliams, while he’s ranked among the top ten defenders for chances created. Opponents Everton have scored just one goal this season and have managed just one big chance on goal. Expect clean sheet potential to be high for Williams’ Nottingham Forest side this weekend.

Gabriel Martinelli vs Bournemouth (A)

Gabriel Martinelli has seriously impressed at the start of this season: rotation hasn’t been a concern with Emile Smith Rowe recovering from injury and his place in the squad is unlikely to change with two goals in two games. His link-up play with Gabriel Jesus looks to be a sure-fire way to fantasy points this season.

Martinelli has scored from two big chances while also creating five chances. He’s been heavily involved in set pieces too, taking five corners and two free kicks. If you are looking for a budget midfielder this week, he’s worth the extra outlay over those priced between £5.0m and £5.5m in the game, especially with the kind run of fixtures over the next six.

Ivan Toney vs Fulham (A)

Brentford’s Ivan Toney was among the top value forwards in the game last season - he scored 12 goals - and it’s a trend that looks set to continue in this campaign. Brentford have scored six goals so far this season, with talisman Toney involved in half of them (one goal and two assists).

The Bees have the best run of fixtures to the World Cup break, facing just three top six clubs in that period. Up next they play Fulham, Everton, Crystal Palace, Leeds and Southampton. It’s a period that can yield crucial Premier League points, as well as fantasy returns for Toney, who has an excellent penalty record too.
