There weren't too many defensive performances to be admired in FPL Gameweek 32; one defence failed to even show up for their scheduled game on Sunday.

But away from St James' Park and Tottenham's horror show at the back, there were clean sheets for Everton, Crystal Palace and West Ham. There were also a fair few goalscorers, offering differential points for some brave managers over the weekend.

Here are the defenders to target in midweek, none of whom are of a Spurs variety.

Timothy Castagne (£4.3m)

If you fancy jumping on a player after one good gameweek, Timothy Castagne is a must-have in defence. There's little reason to trust Leicester defensively, but the Foxes face a decisive run of games and some attacking bursts from their Belgian wing back would be incredibly helpful.

The 27-year-old netted the winner when Leicester ended a run of nine league games without a victory by beating Wolves 2-1.

Luke Shaw (£5.1m)

Manchester United have kept three clean sheets in a row in the Premier League - the longest current goal-less stretch - so it makes sense to back one of their defenders. One who's still standing of course.

Luke Shaw looks like the safest bet in defence from the Red Devils, but the likes of Diogo Dalot, Tyrell Malacia and even Harry Maguire could profit when United face an embarrassed Tottenham on Thursday.

Marc Guehi (£4.5m)

There may be more enticing Palace FPL picks further forward, but at the back Marc Guehi has collected 21 points from his last three games.

With fixtures against Wolves, West Ham and Tottenham to come in their next three, the Eagles should pick up more clean sheets, while Guehi proved his threat in the opposition box by scoring in the 5-1 thumping of Leeds.

Alex Moreno (£4.5m)

Alex Moreno has performed the left back spot perfectly since arriving at Aston Villa, being tenacious at the back while offering threat in attack.

He followed up a ten-point haul against Newcastle with only two vs Brentford, but he's a good option for games with Fulham and Wolves either side of a trip to Old Trafford to face Man Utd.

When is the FPL Gameweek 33 deadline?

It's a tight turnaround FPL deadline wise, with Tuesday's games getting underway at 19:30. That gives players until 18:00 BST for any necessary tweaking.
