Gareth Bale Laughs Off Suggestion of Finishing Career At Wrexham

Monday saw the announcement of the truly sensational takeover of National League side Wrexham by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

The Hollywood duo were confirmed to be successful in their bid to be new owners as the Wrexham Supporters' Trust voted unanimously for the takeover, but it seems one Wales star won't be joining them anytime soon.

The two say they have huge ambitions for the club and plan to turn Wrexham AFC into a global force.

However, when asked if he'd contribute to their cause and end his career there, Tottenham star Gareth Bale laughed off the idea of moving to the north Wales club and joked that they'd have to do it without him.

When interviewed about the takeover, Bale said (as quoted by the Daily Mail): "Hopefully they do good things for Wrexham and get them back into the football league." He was then asked about possibly featuring for them later in his career, to which the Welsh star replied: "It's a bit too far for me from Cardiff."

The takeover comes after nine years of ownership for the Wrexham Supporters' Trust, who saved the club from a winding-up order due to financial issues. Since the takeover they have remained stagnant in the National League, but the new Hollywood A-listers could inject the kind of investment to lift the club back into the EFL for the first time since 2008.

While we are still yet to see the investment they will put in, the excitement surrounding Reynolds and McElhenney's takeover has already been clear to see.

The future is looking bright for Wrexham, and the club celebrated the takeover with a hard-fought 1-0 win away at Hartlepool on Tuesday night, which fans will hope signals the beginning of a successful ownership.

While the injection of LA glamour might attract top players from the lower echelons of the football league, the Hollywood actors will have to bear without Bale in their script for now, as the Tottenham man prefers to be just down the M4 from his boyhood home of Cardiff.
