Gerard Pique's best games for Barcelona - ranked
By Tom Gott
Gerard Pique will forever be remembered as one of the greatest centre-backs to ever grace the game of football.
While recent years weren't always kind to the Spaniard, Pique has built up a vault full of glorious moments and superhuman performances to earn his rightful place in the pantheon of all-time greats.
Ahead of his final-ever game, here's a look back at some of his best in a Barcelona shirt.
6. Real Madrid 2-6 Barcelona (02/05/09)
One of the biggest results in Barcelona history, Pique and his teammates rocked up to the Santiago Bernabeu in May 2009 and ran away with an enormous 6-2 victory.
Up against a forward line made up of Gonzalo Higuain, Raul and Arjen Robben, Barcelona didn't have things their own way early on but a tactical tweak from Pep Guardiola - moving Lionel Messi to a false-nine role - saw the Blaugrana take control of proceedings.
In the end, Pique would create one of the most iconic images in Clasico history as he went bombing forward in open play and slotted home the final goal, stretching his shirt out and screaming into the rival crowd as he scored his first La Liga goal.
5. Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid (29/11/10)
The following year, Barcelona were at it again as they thumped Real Madrid 5-0.
Pique didn't get on the score sheet this time, but he created another famous photo by holding up five fingers to the crowd to remind them of the scoreline.
Jose Mourinho's Real side actually came into the game as favourites but they were expertly downed by Pique and Barcelona.
4. Barcelona 2-0 Man Utd (27/05/09)
An icon at Barcelona, Pique was widely heralded as a flop for his brief spell with Manchester United, so the chance to exact some revenge on the Red Devils in the 2009 Champions League final was too good to pass up on.
Sir Alex Ferguson's side had hopes of becoming the first team to retain the trophy, and with an attack featuring Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney, who could blame them?
Pique was in no mood to roll out the red carpet, however, and was part of an expert team performance that neutralised the defending champions and sent a stark reminder to the United faithful of what he was really about.
3. Juventus 1-3 Barcelona (06/06/15)
Juventus eliminated reigning European champions Real Madrid from the 2014/15 Champions League and were many neutrals' favourites to win the whole thing when they came up against Barcelona in the final.
Barcelona took an early lead but Juventus proved tough competition as Carlos Tevez and Alvaro Morata, alongside the iconic midfield of Paul Pogba, Claudio Marchisio and Andrea Pirlo, began to stamp their authority on things.
Pique was kept incredibly busy at the back but his resolute work allowed Barcelona to run out 3-1 winners when all was said and done.
2. Barcelona 1-1 Real Madrid (06/02/19)
There's a bit of a gap up to Pique's top two performances in a Barcelona shirt.
We're starting off with the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg against Real Madrid from February 2019. The Blaugrana weren't at the peak of their powers at this point and, if we're being honest, were run ragged by Karim Benzema, Vinicius Junior and Lucas Vazquez, the latter of whom put Real 1-0 up early on.
Sensing something bad could be on the cards, Pique went into a whole new world as he repelled everything that came his way. He was nearly perfect with his passing as well, putting on an absolute clinic in how to defend at the highest level.
1. Real Madrid 0-1 Barcelona (02/03/19)
Any aspiring defender who wants to understand how to make it in the modern game need only to watch this masterclass away at Real Madrid in March 2019.
The story is the same as the previous entry, but with Gareth Bale now taking Vazquez's place.
There's no point even telling you what Pique did specifically. He did literally everything to absolute perfection, whether it be defending, passing, dribbling or calming things down for his side.
It was almost unbelievable to watch. To pull out that calibre of performance on enemy turf was sublime.
