Germany reveal stance on Julian Nagelsmann's future amid Liverpool links

Germany's FA have revealed their desire to keep Julian Nagelsmann beyond this summer's Euro 2024, despite being linked with the jobs at Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.

Nagelsmann put pen to paper on a short-term contract as head coach of the German national team back in September, joining on a deal until the end of the European Championship.

The talented 36-year-old has been tipped to return to club football later in the summer, but the German FA have not made any secret of their hopes of convincing Nagelsmann to stay in his international post.

Bernd Neuendorf, president of the German FA, said on Thursday: "The chemistry is there. Julian said that he would like clarity about his future before the Euros. We certainly won't be opposed to such a wish."

Nagelsmann stated earlier this month he would sign his next contract - wherever that may be - if he felt comfortable with it prior to the start of Euro 2024.

"If I have a contract offer before the Euros that I'm satisfied with and that makes me feel comfortable, then the likelihood of me signing it before the Euros is high," he said.

"Currently, I don't have anything on the table. Therefore, I can't answer the question. The likelihood of something happening before the Euros is there, but as of now, there's also a chance that nothing will happen."

90min understands Nagelsmann ranks highly on Liverpool's seven-man shortlist of contenders to replace Jurgen Klopp, with Bayer Leverkusen's Xabi Alonso the current frontrunner for the job.

In recent weeks, Nagelsmann has also been linked to Dortmund, while there has also been tentative talk of a return to Bayern Munich following his sacking in March 2023.
