Harry Kane does not see himself as undroppable from England team

Harry Kane has revealed that he does not view himself as undroppable from the England team.

The Three Lions captain started his side's Euro 2020 opener - a 1-0 win over Croatia - but put in an underwhelming display, touching the ball just 26 times and completing 10 of his 16 passes. Despite this, England still managed to win with Raheem Sterling finishing off Kalvin Phillips' through ball just after half time.

Kane topped the Premier League goals and assists charts this season and is viewed by most fans as the first name on the team sheet. However, in an interview with ITV, the England skipper revealed that he does not see himself as a guaranteed starter.

"You'll have to ask Gareth that!" he said when quizzed on whether he could be dropped in the future. "I never look at it that way. We've got great competition for places - Dominic [Calvert-Lewin] has come in and done great.

"For me it's just about training how I train every single day, trying to be the best, trying to improve every day and when I play give my best for the team. I think that's what everyone's doing at the moment. I'm sure they'll be rotation amongst all the players at the tournament and everyone's ready for their chance to try and make an impact."

England's next game is against Scotland on Friday. It will be just the second time the rivals have met in a major tournament, with the other coming at Euro 96.

Kane said he was impressed by the Scots' performance in their 2-0 defeat to Czech Republic, joking that he would try and replicate Patrik Schick's incredible long-range strike.

"I thought Scotland played quite well. They had a few chances, the Czech keeper made some great saves," Kane continued. "They scored one from 50 yards which changed the game a little bit. Scotland were good. Obviously we'll be looking at the game and seeing the things we can exploit and do well. All in all, we're ready for a tough game."

Asked about Schick's goal, he said: "Unbelievable. To see the keeper off his line is one thing but to be able to put it in the back of the net is another. Probably the goal of the tournament. That will be a hard one to beat.

"Every now and then I'll look for that one. The keepers nowadays like to play as sweepers looking for that ball in behind, so if there's a quick ricochet of a quick opening I like to look for that one. You never know, we might get another one in this tournament!"
