Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has confessed his ankle is causing him pain after he was forced off injured late in his side's 5-2 win over Darmstadt on Saturday.

The England international scored his 31st goal of the campaign to help inspire the victory but left the field early after a collision with the woodwork left him holding his ankle.

Given his extensive history with ankle injuries, the sight of Kane on the ground left both Bayern and England fans sweating. Kane is due to link up with the Three Lions next week and also has plenty of big games coming up at club level in Bayern's quest to salvage something from this season.

Asked about his latest injury after the game, Kane simply responded: "It's a little bit painful."

Manager Thomas Tuchel offered more insight in his post-match press conference.

"He collided with the post and twisted his ankle a bit," Tuchel said. "He had his ankle iced. There's still no diagnosis, we have to wait. I hope it's nothing bad."

Fortunately for fans, Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund suggested Kane's withdrawal from the game was actually a precaution.

"We hope it's not so bad," Freund revealed. "He was subbed off as a precaution. He won't take any risks with the national team."

England are due to face Brazil and Belgium in friendlies before the end of the month before Bayern return to domestic action with a huge game against Borussia Dortmund on March 30. The Champions League quarter-final tie with Arsenal is scheduled for April 9.
