Has Cristiano Ronaldo won the Olympics?
- Cristiano Ronaldo is a five-time Ballon d'Or winner
- The forward won Euro 2016 with Portugal
- Ronaldo only competed in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games
Cristiano Ronaldo has won just about every major trophy for club and country, but has he ever taken home an Olympic gold medal?
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the winningest players of all time. From Champions Leagues to the Euros, to club trophies in England, Italy, and Spain, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has just about won all he could in his legendary career. His individual awards and goalscoring records speak for themselves as well, making him as decorated and successful as any athlete in the world.
Of course, the big trophy missing from his cabinet is the World Cup, a dream that will likely never be fulfilled for the Portuguese icon. There is another achievement, though, that has also evaded Ronaldo throughout his time as a professional.
Has Cristiano Ronaldo won the Olympics?
No, Cristiano Ronaldo has never won a gold medal at the Olympics. Despite being one of the greatest players of all time, the forward will not have an Olympic medal in his trophy cabinet when he retires.
Ronaldo's first and only Olympics appearance came in 2004 when he was 19 years old. At the time, his career at Manchester United was just beginning, and he had yet to truly prove himself for club or country.
The 2004 Athens Olympic Games would have been the perfect opportunity to announce himself on a global stage, but Ronaldo had a tournament to forget. Portugal exited the competition in the group stage, coming last in Group D, featuring Iraq, Costa Rica, and Morocco.
Ronaldo managed to score his first (and only) Olympic goal to give Portugal their only win in the group against Morocco, but it was not enough to advance to the knockout rounds. Portugal's defeats to Costa Rica and Iraq eliminated them from the tournament, taking Ronaldo's hopes of a gold medal with them.
