How many Olympics has the USWNT won?
- The USWNT has the most gold medals in women's soccer history
- The Stars and Stripes could only capture bronze in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics
- It has been 12 years since the USWNT brought home gold
The USWNT has won the most Olympic gold medals of all time in women's soccer, and they are looking to add another this summer at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Historically, the U.S. Men's National Team struggles to even qualify for the Olympics while the U.S. Women's National Team has dominated the competition, dating all the way back to the inaugural Olympic women's soccer tournament in 1996. The most legendary USWNT players, including Mia Hamm, Abby Wambach, and Carli Lloyd, all have Olympic medals in their trophy cabinets.
Now, the next generation of American women's soccer players will compete in France at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The pressure is on Emma Hayes' squad to live up to the United States' legacy in the tournament. After all, the USWNT has won the competition four-times more than any other nation.
How many Olympics has the USWNT won?
The USWNT has won four Olympic gold medals, the most by any nation ever. The Stars and Stripes found the ultimate success in 1996, 2004, 2008, and 2012.
Even when the Stars and Stripes fail to take gold, they almost always earn a spot on the podium. The USWNT took home the silver medal in 2000 after falling to Norway, and the bronze medal in 2020 after losing to Canada in the semi-finals.
In fact, the only time the USA did not medal in women's soccer at the Olympics came in 2016. Coming off a historic threepeat at the competition, the USWNT lost to Sweden in the quarter-finals, crushing their dream of winning four gold medals in a row.
If the USWNT manages to win gold this summer in the French capital, then they will extend the USA's gold medal lead over every other nation, including Norway, Germany, and Canada, who all have one gold medal.
The USWNT kick off their 2024 Paris Olympics campaign against Zambia on July 25 at 3 p.m. ET.
