The USA has a storied history when it comes to the Olympics, but has the USMNT ever brought home a gold medal for the Stars and Stripes?

When it comes to USA soccer at the Olympics, the world is usually focused on the U.S. Women's National Team. After all, they lead the competition with four gold medals, including a threepeat that came in 2004, 2008, and 2012. Even when they have not taken home gold, the USWNT typically finds their way onto the podium, most recently with a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

With the USWNT finding so much international success, fans are rarely left talking about the U.S. Men's National Team at the Olympics. In fact, the USMNT failed to qualify for three consecutive Olympics until finally they earned the right to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Here's a breakdown of the USMNT's biggest achievements at the Olympics.

How many Olympics has USMNT won?

The USMNT has never won an Olympic gold medal. In fact, they have never even brought home a medal in the modern Olympic era.

The only men's soccer medals the Stars and Stripes can claim are from 1904, when club teams Christian Brothers College and St Rose Parish, both from St. Louis, won Silver and Bronze respectively.

The closest the USA have come to taking home a medal in the modern era came in 2000. The USMNT left Athens with a fourth-place finish, their best ever, after falling to Chile in the bronze medal match. Some of the best USMNT players of all time were on the squad, including Landon Donovan, Tim Howard, and Brad Friedel.

Since the 2000 Athens Olympic Games, though, the USMNT only managed to qualify for the Olympics twice—once in 2008, and now, in 2024. In fact, if Marko Mitrovic's squad even makes it past the group stage this summer, they will give the USA their second-best finish in the modern era.

The USA kicks off their Olympics run against Thierry Henry's France on Wednesday, July 24 at 3 p.m. ET.
