While Chelsea's form on the pitch has been indifferent for the past two years, the west London club are making all the headlines for their work off it.
Todd Boehly has splashed his cash at an unrelenting rate since he succeeded Roman Abramovich as Chelsea owner in May 2022. He first sought to ensure Graham Potter was set up for success after parting ways with Thomas Tuchel, but Potter's woes at the helm left the new owner with little choice but to end his project after just a few months.
The club were forced to reset after a dismal 2022/23 campaign. with Mauricio Pochettino plucked out as the man to lead the Blues into a new dawn. How much have Chelsea spent under Todd Boehly?
A lot.
Boehly would have overseen just three transfer windows as Chelsea owner, yet the Blues have spent approximately £857m on new players.
The Blues were somewhat sensible in Boehly first transfer window as they spent around £250m with the arrivals of Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Raheem Sterling, and Kalidou Koulibaly making up a large proportion of that outlay. Koulibaly has since departed for the Saudi Pro League.
Things got a little silly the following January with the club in a desperate situation. Their woes on the pitch forced them to spend big, with World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez arriving for a then-club record £106m. Mykhailo Mudryk also joined for a big fee, but the Ukrainian's time at Chelsea has so far been disastrous.
The Blues were once again been incredibly busy last summer, with the club acquiring their potential #9 for the future in Nicolas Jackson (£30m) as well as excellent playmaker Christopher Nkunku (£52m). Axel Disasi (£38m) arrived in a bid to mitigate Wesley Fofana's injury before the club sought to bolster their thin midfield in a rather extravagant way. The club smashed the British transfer record to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton (£115m) and also beat Liverpool to the signing of Romeo Lavia (£58m) from Southampton.
The 2024 January window was one of serenity in west London as Chelsea failed to complete a single signing.
Despite their relentless spending spree, which has also included the additions of several young talents from overseas, particularly Brazil, many feel as if Chelsea still have plenty of work to do until they build a squad capable of competing at the top of the Premier League.
