Liverpool may have to part with £12.8m if they want to hire Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim this summer, a report has claimed.
Amorim has emerged as a leading contender for the Liverpool job after Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso publicly ruled himself out of the race to replace Jurgen Klopp on Friday.
The 39-year-old is under contract with Sporting until 2026 and his deal is known to include a release clause, although there have been significant differences when it comes to the amount of this exit clause.
Previous reports claimed it would cost €30m (£25.6m) to hire Amorim from Sporting, but The Telegraph now state that the release clause this summer actually stands at €15m (£12.8m).
While that is obviously a huge reduction on the original €30m fee, a compensation sum of €15m would still make Amorim one of the top five most expensive managers of all time.
It is also added that Amorim's release clause will drop down to €10m (£8.5m) in 2025 as he enters the final year of his current contract.
Another target for the Liverpool job, Brighton & Hove Albion's Roberto De Zerbi, is believed to have a similar release clause of around £12m in his contract with the Seagulls.
One cheaper option would be Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann, whose current deal is due to expire after Euro 2024 this summer. He could be available for free if he declines the offer of an extension which is expected to come his way.
