How Spurs official Fabio Paratici is linked to Juventus scandal

Tottenham manager director of football Fabio Paratici is reported to be among 13 people who will be indicted by prosecutors in Turin regarding the ongoing scandal at former club Juventus.

Since joining Spurs, Paratici has played a major role in the recruitment of manager Antonio Conte, as well as Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur and Cristian Romero.

Prior to moving to London in 2021, Paratici had spent 11 years at Juve as sporting director.

This week, the entire board – including president Andrea Agnelli and Juve legend Pavel Nedved – suddenly stepped down following an investigation into the club’s finances.

There are allegations of various false statements, including capital gains, salaries and operating loss.

All those under investigation were initially notified following the conclusion of preliminary investigations in late October. However, there could yet be further investigative work as the prosecution gathers evidence to build its case.

Juventus released a lengthy statement on Thursday insisting that ‘the accounting treatment adopted in the contested financial statements falls within those allowed by applicable accounting principles’.

The club also claimed that the allegations from the prosecutor’s office ‘do not appear to be substantiated’ and are not in line with the report from Italy’s securities commission, CONSOB.

Juve claim they remain ‘convinced that it has always acted correctly and intends to assert its reasons and defend its corporate, economic and sporting interests in all forums.’
