How Xavi inspired Barcelona's 4-0 El Clasico triumph
It has been revealed how Xavi inspired Barcelona to beat Real Madrid 4-0 at the Bernabeu back in March of this year.
Xavi's first year in charge of Barcelona has been a somewhat mixed one with the team suffering some big disappointments but picking up some notable wins too. Arguably the most notable of them came in March, when they travelled to Madrid and beat their arch-rivals 4-0 in a stunning display of dominance.
The match was perhaps the high point of Xavi's managerial career to date, and in documentary series A New Era, which tells the story of the club's past two years, the team talk he gave to his players before it was shown.
"Curiously, today is Madrid day, it's the day I'm calmer and as a coach I thought I was going to be more tense, more nervous, but I'm very calm, do you know why?" he asked his players, with Jordi Alba saying that it was because they were going to win.
"It'a day of patience and personality," the manager continued. "Patience with the ball, they're going to get desperate, they're [fans are] going to start whistling... This is the match we want.
"If you give everything on the pitch and you are a team, we are a better team than Madrid. If we play in dribs and drabs - now I attack you, now you attack me, I attack, you attack - then they are better.
"I would pay to play, really, I would pay to play."
The documentary series can be watched on Amazon Prime from December 28.
