Inter Miami 2-1 Atlanta United: Player ratings as Phil Neville's side secures fourth consecutive win

After kicking off the 2022 Major League Soccer season with four defeats, Inter Miami are turning things around. 

The team defeated Atlanta United 2-1 at DRV PNK Stadium in South Florida as goals from Leonardo Campana and Bryce Duke maintained Inter Miami’s momentum. 

The Atlanta United forward opened up the scoring in the 13th minute after a dominant start. Cisneros worked off of a corner kick, obtaining possession inside the box to manage the right footed shot past Inter Miami goalkeeper Nick Marsman. 

Phil Neville’s side retaliated minutes later, seeing a successful sequence between defender DeAndre Yedlin and Camapa reach the back of the net. The USMNT figure initiated the run from the right, edging on the goal line before completing the cross to the Wolves loanee, who brought it down beautifully before sending it into the opposite corner. 

After heading into halftime with the 1-1 draw, Inter Miami returned to the pitch eager to get the winner. And the team got their way, after Leonardo pushed forward on the left to set up Duke. The substitute, who came off the bench minutes prior, capitalized on the cross with a right footed shot to the center of the goal. 

Inter Miami’s leading man Campana has now been directly involved in seven of the team’s nine goals, scoring five of them himself. 

The triumph marked Inter Miami’s fourth consecutive win in all competitions, a complete turnaround after a disappointing start to the campaign.

1. Inter Miami (4-5-1)

GK: Nick Marsman - 7/10 - Slip up during the goal but improved as game progressed.

RB: DeAndre Yedlin - 8/10 - Strong at the back before inspiring on the attack. Great run before assisting Campana on the first goal.

CB: Damion Lowe - 6/10 - Terrible defending to allow the first goal in, flimsy when holding down the backline.

CB: Aimé Mabika - 7/10 - Three necessary clearances but is not the influential defender the team needs. Cannot be depended on to solely take care of the backline.

LB: Christopher McVey - 6/10 - Another one at fault for the first goal, simply watched as Cisneros attempted the shot. Attempted to get involved as the game progressed but lacked quality.

RW: Ariel Lassiter - 8/10 - Great asset on the attack, fast paced and eager. Communication with Campana made for successful runs forward.

CM: Jean Mota - 7/10 - Inconsistent. Good on the ball, but otherwise left the midfield open for Moreno and Almeyda to take advantage.

CM: Mo Adams - 6.5/10 - Not completely satisfactory as a replacement for Gregore. Slower on the ball when Miami attempted a high tempo rhythm.

CM: Robert Taylor - 6.5/10 - Must be more threatening when on the ball, too laid back when Inter Miami need a force.

LW: Robbie Robinson - 7/10 - A couple decent runs through the left, but not nearly threatening enough to keep on the pitch when Atlanta United are dominating.

F: Leonardo Campana- 9/10 - One goal, and one assist. Gaining confidence with each passing game while becoming Miami's key figure on the attack.

SUB: Bryce Duke (for Adams, '56) - 10/10 - Came off the bench to score five minutes in.

SUB: Noah Allen (for Robinson, '56) - 7/10 - Still young, developing while earning minutes.

SUB: Emerson Rodríguez (for Taylor, '75) - N/A

SUB: Gonzalo Higuaín (for Campana, '83) - 7/10 - First time available in three weeks, and went down after 10 minutes.

2. Atlanta United (4-2-3-1)

GK: Bobby Shuttleworth - 6/10 - Cannot be faulted for the first goal, but literally watched as the ball went in on the second. Looked completely defeated by the 65th minute.

RB: Brooks Lennon - 7/10 - Has previously been better when pushing forward.

CB: George Campbell - 7.5/10 - Solid.

CB: Miles Robinson - 7.5/10 - Stronger on the left but made three very necessary clearances.

LB: Andrew Gutman- 6.5/10 - Not his finest game. Usually solid at the back and an asset pushing forward, this time he lacked sharpness and instead went for the reckless fouls.

RW: Thiago Almada - 7.5/10 - Must be sharper when finishing to get the goals, but inspired several threatening and creative opportunities.

CM: Amar Sejdić - 6/10 - Involved early on but lost steam as the minutes passed. Usually a stronger force, he held back Atlanta United.

CAM: Marcelino Moreno- 8/10 - Manipulated the midfield very well to find pockets of space in the final third. Fluid on the ball to inspire successful sequences.

CM: Santiago Sosa - 7.5/10 - Very strong in the midfield, but must work on finishing when inside the final third.

LW: Caleb Wiley - 7/10 - Lacks confidence on the ball, quickly passing it off when gaining possession inside the box. Still finding his feet with the team, but eager to be involved.

F: Ronaldo Cisneros - 9/10 - Early goal and worked off of that momentum, but inconsistent at times.

SUB: Luis Araujo (for Wiley, '62) - 6/10 - Blended into the background instead of providing the necessary reinforcement on the attack.

SUB: Jake Mulraney (for Gutman, '75) - 7/10 - Did the job.

SUB: Emerson Hyndman (for Sejdić, '75) - 7/10 - Sat back, but got the job done.

SUB: Jackson Conway (For Sosa, '89) - 8/10 - Almost created a goal-scoring opportunity seconds after coming off the bench.
