Inter Miami announce departure of assistant coach Anthony Pulis

Inter Miami have announced the departure of assistant coach Anthony Pulis, who is taking the vacant managerial role at USL Championship side Miami FC.

The Herons will now begin their search for Phil Neville's new assistant, with the expectation of putting them in place prior to the start of the 2022 MLS season.

“The Club would like to congratulate Anthony for earning this opportunity to lead Miami FC," chief soccer officer and sporting director Chris Henderson said in an official press release.

"He is a fantastic coach and person and we couldn’t be happier for him. He has been a key complement of Inter Miami’s coaching staff for its first two MLS campaigns that has helped us implement the right culture and mindset in the Club. We wish Anthony all the best as he pursues this new opportunity.

"We’ve immediately begun the search for a new assistant coach that helps the Club reach its objectives."

Neville backed Pulis to be a success at Miami FC and said he felt "fortunate" to have worked alongside him.

37-year-old Pulis was assistant coach in each of Inter Miami's first two seasons in MLS, joining the club in January 2020 ahead of its expansion year and working under both Neville and Diego Alonso.

The son of Welsh manager Tony Pulis, Anthony enjoyed a nomadic playing career in the English lower leagues, culminating in a spell with Orlando City in USL between 2012 and 2014. He's also coached at that level previously with Orlando City B and Saint Louis FC, so should offer plenty of know-how to his new club.

“I would like to thank Phil, Chris, and the ownership group for allowing me to pursue this opportunity to be a head coach," Pulis said of his departure. "I would also like to thank all the technical staff, support staff, and players who I’ve had the pleasure of working with the past two years. The lessons I’ve learnt from each and every one of them have been invaluable to my development as a coach.

"The opportunity to be part of an organization from the very beginning is unique and one I will always be grateful for. I would like to wish everyone at Inter Miami CF all the very best in the future."

Alongside searching for Neville's new assistant, Inter Miami will also be focusing on improving their roster for the 2022 campaign after missing out on the MLS Cup Playoffs this time around.
