Construction on Inter Miami's new stadium, Freedom Park, has officially begun.

In a couple years' time the Herons will say goodbye to Ft Lauderdale and DRV PNK Stadium's 19,100 capacity, and say hello to Miami Freedom Park that will hold 25,00 spectators. The new ground will also be located in the city of Miami, and not in Ft Lauderdale.

The team revealed Freedom Park is expected to open gates in 2025.

The Herons began life in MLS in 2020 while playing at DRV PNK Stadium, and like other new clubs such as Nashville SC, FC Cincinnati and St Louis City, will be constructed as a football/soccer-specific stadium.

"With Inter Miami, my family set out to build something truly transformational. In just four years we have changed the perception worldwide of American soccer. As we commence construction of Miami Freedom Park that same vision guides us," Inter Miami managing owner Jorge Mas said in a press release.

Should the stadium be completed in 2025, it would allow Miami to play some their first games in their new stadium with Lionel Messi in the side and still under contract. The deal that the Argentina international signed with Miami earlier this summer runs though the 2025 MLS season.

"In creating a multi-faceted space we will set a new standard of what sport complexes can be. We look forward to delivering a food and entertainment destination for families to enjoy year-round. I can’t wait to welcome our fans to our state-of-the-art stadium and hear the chants as Messi and your Inter Miami players take the pitch for the first time in 2025," said Mas in the release.

Miami, fresh off a Leagues Cup title and 2-0 victory over New York Red Bulls, are back in action on August 30 when they host Nashville SC.
