Inter Miami have bolstered their defensive options with the signing of experienced Argentine left-back Franco Negri.
The 27-year-old joins on a two-year deal through the 2024 MLS season with a club option on 2025, having last played for Argentine top-flight side Godoy Cruz.
Negri - who can also cover as a midfielder - has plenty of experience as a journeyman in his homeland, totaling over 130 senior appearances during spells with San Lorenzo, Quilmes, Independiente Rivadavia, Belgrano, Newell's Old Boys, and most recently Godoy Cruz.
"We are thrilled to strengthen our squad with an experienced and versatile player like Negri and are excited to see him represent Inter Miami as we work towards a successful season in 2023,” Inter Miami chief soccer officer and sporting director Chris Henderson said in a club press release.
Negri is set to compete with former England international Kieran Gibbs for Miami's starting left-back spot, alongside homegrown talent Noah Allen, meaning center-back Christopher McVey will no longer need to cover in that position.
The arrival of Negri marks the latest step in a busy winter of recruitment for Miami, who have also signed striker Leonardo Campana on a permanent basis from Wolves, while Nicolas Stefanelli and Jake LaCava have also joined the club.
The Herons are looking to once again make the MLS Cup Playoffs in 2023 after reaching the First Round last season. Phil Neville's side kick off the new campaign at home to CF Montreal on February 25.
