Major League Soccer's two Florida-based clubs, Inter Miami and Orlando City, go head-to-head in the round of 32 in the 2023 Leagues Cup.

Unsurprisingly there's a huge clamour to see Lionel Messi play his third game for Miami, which incidentally will maintain his record of playing exclusively in front of the Herons' support.

Both Eastern Conference sides topped their respective Leagues Cup groups to make it through to the knockout rounds. Inter Miami finished with six points in South Group three - thanks to wins over Cruz Azul and Atlanta United - while Orlando topped South Group two after scooping five points, courtesy of a dramatic win over Santos Laguna and a penalty kicks success over Houston Dynamo.

These two sides have met 11 times in the past, with Orlando holding the superior record after tasting victory on six occasions. Miami have won just three of the 11 encounters - the other two finishing in draws.

Inter Miami team news

The Herons still have a host of injuries, but that hasn't stopped Messi and Sergio Busquets so far in the tournament.

Former club captain Gregore is sidelined with a Lisfranc injury suffered earlier in the season, joining Jean Mota on the sidelines. There's hope the latter will be available by November, when Miami hope to be in deep in play-off contention.

Whether or not new signings Diego Gomez and Jordi Alba feature for Miami remains to be seen.

Inter Miami vs Orlando City score prediction

Miami have looked a completely different side, as you might expect, with Messi and Busquets among their ranks. Potentially throw Jordi Alba into the mix too and it's easy to understand why expectations, and standards, have risen.

But Orlando will be no pushovers in this competition, and can draw upon the experience of their 3-1 win from their last encounter for motivation. Mauricio Pereira and Facundo Torres have shined for the Lions this season alongside forward Duncan McGuire, and they might just ask plenty of questions of Miami's defense.

It could be a game full of goals and drama - one Miami may just edge thanks to the Messi factor.

Prediction: Inter Miami 3-2 Orlando City
