The Derby della Madonnina returns this weekend, and the stakes are as high as ever.

'Hosts' Inter sit top of the Serie A table, four points clear of Milan in third and with a game in hand.

If the Rossoneri are to maintain their title challenge, then they need to move within striking distance of their rivals, and Saturday's fixture represents their best chance of doing just that.

But which of these sides actually boasts the superior talent? When a derby day is on the horizon, you know a combined XI is too - here are our picks between Inter and Milan.

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Mike Maignan (GK) - The summer departure of Gianluigi Donnarumma would have been a painful one for Milan fans, particularly after his tournament-winning performances at Euro 2020, but Maignan has certainly softened that blow, emerging as one of Europe's finest goalkeepers.

Milan Skriniar (CB) - If you're searching for 'Inter Skriniar' jokes, you've come to the wrong place.

Fikayo Tomori (CB) - Yes, yes, we know he's injured, but this lineup isn't taking that into account. Since his move from Chelsea, Tomori has become a premier defender in Serie A.

Alessandro Bastoni (CB) - Still only 22-years-old, Bastoni broke through as a favourite at Inter under Antonio Conte and remains a key man with Simone Inzaghi at the helm.

2. Wing-backs & midfielders

Denzel Dumfries (RWB) - Instantly made that right-wing-back slot at Inter his own following his summer transfer, and has recently started chipping in with more goals and assists too.

Nicolo Barella (CM) - If Inter are to become a European powerhouse again, then they'll need to build around Barella in the 2020s.

Marcelo Brozovic (CM) - One of Europe's most underrated midfielders of the last few years, Brozovic is finally getting the love he deserves.

Franck Kessie (CM) - Given his stark rise in recent years, it's no surprise to see Kessie linked with Europe's elite with his contract up in the summer.

Theo Hernandez (LWB) - You'd be hard pressed to find a better wing-back with the attacking threat that Hernandez brings - his duel with Dumfries this weekend should be a great watch.

3. Forwards

Lautaro Martinez (CF) - Despite the departure of strike partner Romelu Lukaku back in August, El Toro is still thriving up top for the Nerazzurri.

Rafael Leao (CF) - After a slow start to life at Milan, Leao is now firmly one of the Rossoneri's most important and dynamic players.
