Indian Super League (ISL) side, ATK Mohun Bagan's newest signing, Ashique Kuruniyan has reiterated that he will become a better player in a competitive team like the Mariners following his move to Kolkata from fellow Indian side, Bengaluru FC earlier in the transfer window.

Kuruniyan is keen to join up with Indian teammates Liston Colaco and Manvir Singh in what could be an all-Indian attacking line-up at ATK Mohun Bagan and believes that his move will be beneficial for his career - especially with the 2023 AFC Asian Cup coming up in the near future.

"The best offer I ever got was from ATKMB and I wished to play in front. Also, I have heard from a lot of players that Kolkata is definitely a place where a footballer should play. So, I gladly accepted the opportunity," he said in an interview.

"I am very happy and proud. Because ATK Mohan Bagan is a team that fights for the trophy every moment. In such a team, I always have to fight and play well for my chance and match time. Having to face such a battle is good for all players. When I fight for my position, other players in the same position will fight for theirs. So, they and I will grow better as a player. That's good for the team," the winger added.

The 25-year-old spent three seasons with Bengaluru FC and that he is capable of playing as a left-back too, makes him an interesting addition for the Mariners ahead of the upcoming ISL season.
