The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) have approved a groundbreaking new rule that will ban any clubs who compete in non-UEFA or FIFA-approved leagues from Serie A.

It means that Juventus will soon have to formally announce their departure from the Super League, or risk being stripped of their top-flight status.

The FIGC were among a united force of football federations who spoke out against the proposed Super League after it was announced a week ago. Their opposition, along with strong resistance from fans and players, led nine of the 12 clubs involved to back out just 48 hours after the breakaway league was announced.

That includes Milan and Inter, but Serie A champions Juventus are yet to formally quit the controversial competition.

BBC are reporting that the FIGC have now introduced a rule that means any team who takes part in a competition such as the Super League will no longer be allowed to compete in the Italian top flight.

It means that Juventus have until 21 June to officially pull out - or they could risk being kicked out of Serie A in 2021/22.

President Gabriele Gravina said: "At the moment we have no news about who has stayed and who is out of the Super League.

"If, by the deadline for applications to the national championships on 21 June, someone joins up to other private leagues, they will not take part in our championship."
