Roberto Mancini's Italy return to Nations League action at the weekend as they host a talented Poland outfit on Sunday night.

Spearheaded by Bayern Munich hitman Robert Lewandowski and crafty Napoli creator Piotr Zielinski, Poland are one of the sides who have the capacity cause an upset or two at next summer's European Championships following an impressive qualifying campaign.

Biało-Czerwoni currently sit atop of their Nations League group as well but their supremacy will be usurped should they fall to defeat against an ever-evolving Azzurri outfit, who have found a new lease of life - and a bucketload of very good players - under Mancini.

Mancini is poised to ring the changes from the side that trounced Estonia on Wednesday night. The likes of Jorginho, Nicolo Barella, Lorenzo Insigne and Leonardo Bonucci are expected to all return to the fold for Sunday.

The Azzurri, however, will be without defensive stalwart Giorgio Chiellini, who didn't make the squad due to injury, while Federico Chiesa and Ciro Immobile are both doubts.

As for Poland, they have a fully fit squad available for Sunday's trip and Jerzy Brzęczek is set to welcome Lewandowski back to the XI after the Bayern superstar was rested in midweek.

Predicted Lineups

Italy: Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Bonucci, Romagnoli, Spinazzola; Jorginho, Barella, Locatelli; Bernadeschi, Belotti, Insigne.

Poland: Szczęsny; Kedziora, Glik, Walukiewicz, Rybus; Krychowiak, Klich; Jozwiak, Zielinski, Grosicki; Lewandowski.

Recent Form

There might not be a hotter international outfit than Mancini's Italy right now. The Azzurri head into Sunday's contest with a 20-game unbeaten run behind them, a streak which dates back to September 2018.

Buoyed by an exciting young generation of technical and typically gritty talents, Italy are certainly on their way to re-establishing themselves as a footballing powerhouse. They remain unbeaten in their Nations League group after four games, but three draws mean that Sunday's opponents are currently beating them to top spot. Victory here will see the Azzurri reach the summit at the expense of the Poles.

Poland, meanwhile, arrive in Reggio Emilia off the back of a five-game run without tasting defeat. Last month, they held Italy to a stalemate in Gdansk and beat Bosnia & Herzegovina 3-0. They've accumulated seven points from their first four games, with their only defeat in the competition coming on matchday one against the Netherlands.

Both sides were in friendly action in the week, with a rotated Italy side easing past Estonia 4-0 while Poland outlasted Ukraine 2-0.

Here's how each side has fared in their last five outings.

Italy

Italy 4-0 Estonia (11/11)
Italy 1-1 Netherlands (14/10)
Poland 0-0 Italy (11/10)
Italy 6-0 Moldova (7/10)
Netherlands 0-1 Italy (7/9)

Poland

Poland 2-0 Ukraine (11/11)
Poland 3-0 Bosnia & Herzegovina (14/10)
Poland 0-0 Italy (11/10)
Poland 5-1 Finland (7/10)
Bosnia & Herzegovina 1-2 Poland (7/9)

Prediction

These two sides played out a fairly drab stalemate when they last met in October, but it was unquestionably a contest Italy dominated and deserved to win.

Poland are blessed with talent across the field and have proven a tough side to beat over the past two years. In their last three attempts, Italy have overcome the Poles just once - drawing the other two - and scored just two goals in those contests.

It wouldn't be surprising to see a similar dynamic ensue on Sunday, with Italy just having enough to claim all three points.

Prediction: Italy 1-0 Poland
