Ivan Perisic is unlikely to play again this season after suffering an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury in Tottenham Hotspur training.
The Croatian has enjoyed a fine start to the 2023/24 campaign under Ange Postecoglou, impressing in cameos from the bench. He notably grabbed the assist for Richarlison's equaliser during Saturday's late 2-1 win against Sheffield United.
But Perisic's season is likely over having suffered a 'complex' ACL injury, Tottenham have confirmed.
A statement from Spurs read: "We can confirm that Ivan Perisic has suffered a complex Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury in his right knee.
"The experienced Croatia international sustained the injury in non-contact training and will undergo surgery. Wishing you well in your recovery, Ivan."
Perisic joined Tottenham in the summer of 2022 on a free transfer from Inter. He registered 12 assists in all competitions in his debut season in England and played most of the campaign at wing-back.
With Postecoglou reverting to 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 formations, Perisic has played higher up the pitch again in his brief time working with the Greek-Australian coach.
Perisic's contract with Spurs expires at the end of the 2023/24 season and he is unlikely to return from injury before his deal runs out.
The 34-year-old is also facing a race against time to return before Croatia's Euro 2024 campaign, with the nation almost assured of their spot in next summer's finals.
Perisic is Croatia's third-most capped player of all time behind only Luka Modric and Darijo Srna.
