Jamal Musiala has been called up to the Germany squad for the first time after switching allegiance from England.

The Bayern Munich youngster is eligible to represent both countries, having been born in Germany before moving to England at the age of seven.

Musiala has played for both countries at youth level, though the majority of his international career has been spent with the Three Lions.

With the Bayern midfielder flourishing in Die Roten's first team this season, a very public tug of war broke out over which of the two European powerhouses Musiala should represent at senior level.

The 18-year-old recently announced he had opted to play for Germany, and any potential English hopes of a change of heart look to have been dashed with Joachim Low immediately taking the chance to offer Musiala a maiden call-up to Die Mannschaft's senior side.

The German FA took to their official Twitter account to confirm the news, as Low named a 26-man squad for his side's upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Iceland, Romania and Macedonia.

Given the battle to secure Musiala's allegiance to them, it seems highly unlikely that Low will risk the opportunity of not offering the youngster his senior Germany debut - as until he actually plays a competitive fixture, he's not technically tied down to representing them despite outlining his intention to do so.

Not featuring would offer Gareth Southgate the faintest glimmer of hope that he may be able to change his mind - though it's worth noting that such efforts would almost certainly be futile given how recently Musiala declared his German allegiance.

Alongside Musiala, Low has also opted to hand standout Leverkusen youngster Florian Wirtz his first call-up, while there are places for established Premier League stars Bernd Leno, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Antonio Rudiger.
