Despite becoming the first Eastern Conference team to seal their MLS Cup Playoffs spot, the Philadelphia Union know the hard work has only just begun.

The Union booked their place in the post-season with a resounding 4-1 win over Atlanta United on Wednesday, joining LAFC as the only teams throughout MLS to reach the Playoffs so far.

Wednesday was a continuation of the Union's excellent recent form, winning four of their last five games by scoring at least four goals (6-0 vs DC United and Colorado Rapids, 4-1 vs Chicago Fire and Atlanta United).

But for head coach Jim Curtin, this is just the first in a long line of objectives he's set for his side. Philly are only just getting started.

“This team's goal, and the last words that I said to the group, is the Playoffs first,” Curtin said following Wednesday's win. "The Eastern Conference second, Supporters’ Shield third and then we’re gonna push to win MLS Cup. So I think we checked one box tonight. We have a lot of work ahead of us. But we're playing really well right now.”

Unsurprisingly, the Union's recent form has made them the top scorers in MLS right now with 61 goals - one clear of Austin FC in the West and 11 ahead of their nearest rivals in the East, NYCFC.

Curtin was full of praise for his side's 'ruthless' streak and their ability to crush an opponent once Philadelphia get them on the ropes.

“Our guys have a killer instinct, which is really, really dangerous in pro sports when guys smell blood,” Curtin said. "Our guys are pretty ruthless. And I really liked that attitude that they have. We don't stop scoring and we don't stop pushing to try to get goals.”

Up next for the Union is a trip the New York Red Bulls on Saturday.
