Jose Mourinho reveals he hasn't spoken to Harry Kane about Tottenham future

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that he has not spoken to talisman Harry Kane about the player’s future - which has become the subject of ongoing media speculation - but insists there is ‘nothing' to talk about.

Kane has increasingly been linked with a move away from Spurs amid claims that the England captain is becoming frustrated by the club’s failure to challenge for major trophies.

Spurs have fallen further and further away from competing for the Premier League title since peaking at second place in 2016/17, have struggled in the Champions League knockout stages other than 2018/19 when they made the final against the odds, and were last month eliminated from the Europa League in embarrassing fashion by Dinamo Zagreb after surrendering a 2-0 aggregate lead.

There is rumoured interest in Kane from both Real Madrid and Manchester City, although Pep Guardiola has ruled out the latter spending big on anyone this summer: “I don't know what is going to happen but at these prices we are not going to buy any striker It's impossible. We can’t afford it.”

Mourinho says the issue of Kane potentially leaving the club he first joined aged 11 has not been brought up, either by him or the player.

“He works so well every day. He is such a professional, committed with the team, performing well,” Mourinho is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

“Three years of his contract [left]. I have nothing to speak with him. Unless he wants to speak with me about it and until now he never approached me in relation to anything.”

It has been reported that Spurs outright refuse to sell Kane to another Premier League side and have placed a prohibitive £175m (€205m) price tag on his head to ward off interest from Europe.

Kane himself has remained coy on the subject of his future. He has refused to outright discuss it but has equally skirted around the issue of potentially moving on and hasn’t ruled anything out.

“I think that’s a hard question to answer right now,” he said last weekend.

“It’s important that all my focus is on the England games coming up now and the rest of the season with Spurs and then the Euros. To be thinking about speculation or rumours would be damaging in terms of my own performance.

“I always like to be focused on one goal and one job and that’s to finish strong with Spurs, win these qualifiers with England and hopefully go on and have a great Euros. I try to stay out of that speculation as much as possible. I’m fully focused on doing the job on the pitch from now until the end of the summer and then we’ll see where we go from there.”
