Jurgen Klopp bemused by Diogo Jota red card as Tottenham fallout continues
- Klopp unhappy about the standard of officiating in the Premier League
- Liverpool also saw a legitimate goal ruled out for offside in Tottenham defeat
- Curtis Jones saw red alongside Jota after high tackle on Yves Bissouma
Jurgen Klopp has questioned the decision to send off Diogo Jota for two bookable offences in Liverpool's controversial defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Reds were beaten 2-1 by Spurs in north London on Saturday in a game which saw a perfectly legitimate Luis Diaz goal ruled out for offside and two players sent off - Liverpool duo Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota.
PGMOL have since released the VAR audio around the decision not to award Diaz's goal, despite the player being clearly onside, and have apologised to Liverpool for a "significant human error" from the officials involved.
During his press conference ahead of Liverpool's Europa League game against Union Saint-Gilloise, Klopp vented his fury at the standard of officiating during the defeat to Tottenham, and went as far as calling for the game to be replayed.
Klopp had previously called into question the decision to send off Jones, whose foot ran over the top of the ball before impacting on Yves Bissouma's shin, and he was equally as unhappy in his pre-Europa League press conference with the decision to dismiss Jota for two bookable offences.
"Diogo Jota got two yellow cards for not touching a player once, that's unprecedented as well I would say," the German said. "But that's all fine. We can take a lot out of this game and took a lot out of this game. We saw a wonderful team fighting against all odds.
"I don't know how it happened that we ended up with eight cards [bookings] altogether. It's a strange one."
Jota was introduced as a half-time substitute, replacing the injured Cody Gakpo, and was quickly admonished for two separate fouls on Destiny Udogie. Replays suggested, however, that Jota had made minimal contact with the Italian full-back.
Liverpool will be without the 26-year-old for the weekend clash with Brighton & Hover Albion, as the ban cannot be appealed, but Jota is available to face Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League as his suspension pertains to domestic football only.
