Juventus 1-2 Chelsea: Player ratings - Women's Champions League
Chelsea secured their first Women’s Champions League win over the season but were made to work hard for it by a dogged Juventus side playing in front of more than 16,000 fans in Turin.
Having rescued a late draw against Wolfsburg on matchday one, Chelsea dominated the ball against the Italian champions, who were looking to spring an upset.
Juve battled hard in midfield throughout and delivery into the penalty area from both full-backs asked plenty of questions of the Chelsea back three.
Emma Hayes’ team got what was probably a deserved lead when Erin Cuthbert drove at the heart of the Juve defence and finished low past ex-Arsenal goalkeeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin.
But that lead lasted only a few minutes when Barbara Bonansea perfectly timed a run into the box and turned in a volleyed finish to equalise.
Fran Kirby and Sam Kerr both floated in and out of the game and it was Pernille Harder who was Chelsea’s most consistent attacking threat and most likely source of another goal. So it was little surprise when the Dane popped up with Chelsea’s second midway through the second half.
That proved decisive for the WSL side, although Juventus can take great pride from their performance for the remainder of the group stage.
Juventus player ratings
1. Goalkeeper & defenders
Pauline Peyraud-Magnin (GK) - 6/10 - Almost caught out on the ball in the first half but kept Juve in it with an outstanding fingertip save in the second.
Matilde Lundorf (RB) - 7/10 - Good delivery from wide areas.
Sara Gama (CB) - 7/10 - Too slow to try and close down Cuthbert, but it was one of the few things she did wrong.
Cecilia Salvai (CB) - 6/10 - Replaced with 20 minutes to go.
Lisa Boattin (LB) - 7/10 - Her perfect cross into the box gave Juve their equaliser. Limited Chelsea's impact on that side.
2. Midfielders
Martina Rosucci (CM) - 6/10 - Weak attempt to see off Cuthbert when Chelsea broke the deadlock.
Sofie Pedersen (CM) - 6/10 - Worked so hard that she was badly cramping up by the end of the game.
Valentina Cernoia (CM) - 7/10 - Influential with great quality on the ball.
3. Forwards
Barbara Bonansea (RF) - 7/10 - Went close with a lopping header in the first half and converted a well-taken volley not long after.
Cristiana Girelli (ST) - 7/10 - Occupied Chelsea's centre-backs well.
Lina Hurtig (LF) - 7/10 - Threatened to go through on goal more than once. Probably lacked a bit of composure and cutting edge but always dangerous.

5. Goalkeeper & defenders
Ann-Katrin Berger (GK) - 6/10 - Faced little in the way of actual shots until an important late save.
Millie Bright (CB) - 6/10 - A physical presence but her ability on the ball also remains a big plus point, especially at this level.
Jess Carter (CB) - 6/10 - Has good recovery in the heart of the defence but moved out to right-back in a tactical shift in the second half.
Magdalena Eriksson (CB) - 6/10 - Always composed on the ball and defended with class as expected.
6. Midfielders
Erin Cuthbert (RM) - 7/10 - Drove forward with intent and was rewarded with a fine goal that showcase great composure.
Melanie Leupolz (CM) - 6/10 - Good in possession and had a pot shot from distance that flew over the crossbar.
Ji So-yun (CM) - 7/10 - Saw plenty of the ball, although probably a little less effective after the interval than she had been earlier on.
Guro Reiten (LM) - 5/10 - Couldn't track the run of Bonansea when Juve equalised and looked a weak link defensively.
7. Forwards
Fran Kirby (RF) - 7/10 - In and out of the game but it was her off the ball movement that created the space for the opening goal.
Sam Kerr (ST) - 6/10 - Lacked her usual sharpness in front of goal but still involved in good attacking play with her two attacking colleagues.
Pernille Harder (LF) - 8/10 - Cross-field pass set up Cuthbert's goal. Generally a livewire and was rewarded with Chelsea's second goal.
8. Substitutes
Jessie Fleming (CM) - 6/10
Sophie Ingle (CM) - 6/10
Jonna Andersson (LB) - 6/10
