Goals from Federico Chiesa and Dejan Kulusevski were enough for Juventus to fend off Atalanta and win the Coppa Italia on Wednesday evening.

Despite being utterly outplayed throughout the first half, with Duvan Zapata running Giorgio Chiellini and Matthijs de Ligt ragged, Juve took the lead on the half hour mark through former Atalanta man Kulusevski.

The forward was a surprise inclusion in the Juventus lineup, but he proved his worth by curling the ball into the bottom corner from the right of the penalty to make it 1-0.

La Vecchia Signora's lead wouldn't last too long however, as a careless pass into midfield from Danilo led to Atalanta grabbing a deserved equaliser. After Danilo's misplaced pass was pick off in midfield, Hans Hateboer was able to dart down the right flank and pull the ball back to Ruslan Malinovskyi, who subsequently slotted the ball into the right corner of Gianluigi Buffon's goal.

The second half proved to be much more evenly contested, as Juventus finally started to find some joy against a solid Atalanta backline. Both Kulusevski and Chiesa spurned glorious chances to give their the lead - the latter hitting post when one-on-one with Pierluigi Gollini.

Juventus were then handed the lead by Chiesa, when he and Kulusevski linked up wonderfully in the penalty area before Chiesa slid the ball under Gollini and into the net.

Right, let's get into some player ratings from a vintage performance from Andrea Pirlo's men.

Juventus player ratings

1. Goalkeeper and Defenders

Gianluigi Buffon (GK) - 6/10 - His last ever game for Juventus, and judging by his cat-like reflexes, you'd have thought it was his first. Could do nothing about Atalanta's opener, but made some good saves otherwise.

Juan Cuadrado (RB) - 7/10 - Couldn't really provide the attacking thrust he usually provides, but put a huge shift in defensively at least.

Matthijs de Ligt (CB) - 6/10 - Really struggled to deal with Duvan Zapata and was regularly outmuscled by the Colombian time and time again in the first half. Redeemed himself with a quite ridiculous diving block at the start of the second half with the goal gaping.

Giorgio Chiellini (CB) - 6/10 - Like De Ligt, Zapata had his number in the first half. Was in his element in the last 15 minutes when Juve were holding onto the lead however.

Danilo (LB) - 5/10 - An awful pass into midfield was deservedly punished by Atalanta, with Ruslan Malinovskyi drawing his side level.

2. Midfielders

Weston McKennie (RM) - 7/10 - His best performance since that dinner incident. Worked his socks off.

Rodrigo Bentancur (CM) - 8/10 - Sat in and quelled pretty much every single Atalanta attack that came his way. Great stuff.

Adrien Rabiot (CM) - 6/10 - Worked harder than usual to be fair to him.

Federico Chiesa (LM) - 7/10 - Juve's best player this season. Hit the post when he should've scored on the hour mark, then did score when he should've scored in the 72nd minute. What. A. Player.

3. Forwards

Dejan Kulusevski (ST) - 9/10 - A surprise starter but rewarded Andrea Pirlo's faith with a wonderful opener, then set up the second in fantastic fashion. The youngster's best performance in a Juve shirt.

Cristiano Ronaldo (ST) - 6/10 - Literally forgot he was playing until the hour mark when his sublime flick should've set up a Chiesa goal.

4. Substitutes

Paulo Dybala - 5/10.

Leonardo Bonucci - 6/10.
