Kevin De Bruyne & Marcus Rashford among Premier League Player of the Month nominees
Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and Manchester United Marcus Rashford both feature on the Premier League Player of the Month shortlist for September.
But there is no Erling Haaland despite the August winner scoring two more goals in two games.
De Bruyne contributed massively to City in September, assisting three of the club’s four goals across their draw with Aston Villa and comfortable win over Wolves.
Rashford, meanwhile, appears completely rejuvenated following a poor 2021/22 campaign and a disastrous start to this season. He scored twice in United’s 3-1 win against Arsenal and assisted the only goal in a victory over Leicester at the start of the month.
They are joined on the six-player shortlist by Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi, who has started to thrive in a deeper position for the Toffees. He played a significant role as Frank Lampard’s side held Liverpool to a draw in the Merseyside derby and then assisted the only goal in Everton’s overdue first win of the season against West Ham last time out.
Tottenham midfielder Pierre Emile Hojbjerg is also nominated, with Spurs still unbeaten in the Premier League this season and the Dane scoring against Fulham and assisting against Leicester.
Aston Villa youngster is Jacob Ramsey is nominated for a monthly award for the first time thanks to his contributions to two positive results for a team that had struggled in August. He set up a goal in the 1-1 draw against Manchester City and scored the winner against Southampton.
Bournemouth’s turnaround in September and Phillip Billing’s part in that has also been recognised. Playing further forward than his usual defensive role, the Dane scored in successive matches as the Cherries took four points against Nottingham Forest and Newcastle.
