Kieran Trippier 'Happy' at Atletico Madrid Amid Premier League Return Links
By Adam Aladay
Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier is said to be 'happy' where he is right now in his career, following rumours linking him with a return to the Premier League in recent times.
Trippier made the surprise switch to Atletico last summer, joining from Tottenham Hotspur for around £20m. It was a move that some doubted would be beneficial for his career, but the Englishman has established himself as the first-choice right-back for Diego Simeone.
The defender has made 26 appearances in all competitions so far for Atleti in 2019/20, grabbing four assists. Despite only joining last summer, Trippier has already been linked with a move away from the Wanda Metropolitano.
However, AS have now reported that Trippier will not be going anywhere when the transfer window opens, as both the player and his club are happy. The report claims that Atletico are 'calm' about any interest in him, while Trippier himself has no plans to move anywhere in the upcoming window as he is content with his role and life in Madrid.
Trippier was recently charged by the English FA for alleged breaches of their gambling regulations during his time with Tottenham, with the possibility of a ban hanging over and potential move away. However, AS drive home the point that the club aren't overly concerned about the issue, while Trippier has repeated denials of any wrongdoing.
Atletico's players have now returned to training as the resumption of the 2019/20 season edges closer. La Liga president Javier Tebas recently confirmed that there are plans for the league to return on 12 June if everything goes to plan.
Moves toward a restart are continuing to gather pace, although three Real Betis players have tested positive for the coronavirus, bringing the number of cases in La Liga to six, including Trippier's teammate and fellow full-back Renan Lodi.
