Lazio 1-4 Bayern Munich: Player ratings as Bavarians ease to big first-leg victory

Hansi Flick's Bayern Munich thumped Lazio 4-1 at Estadio Olimpico on Tuesday night to take a valuable lead into the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie.

Bayern found the opener after just nine minutes when Robert Lewandowski latched onto a woeful Mateo Musacchio back pass to coolly round Pepe Reina and tap in.

Despite Lazio regaining some composure, the Bavarians showed their ruthless streak and doubled their lead on 24 minutes when Jamal Musiala beautifully controlled Leon Goretzka's poke through and slotted the ball effortlessly into the bottom corner. Bayern made it 3-0 soon after when Leroy Sane tapped into an empty goal following good work from Kingsley Coman.

The visitors made it four within two minutes of the restart. Coman set up a devastating counter attack with a perfectly weighted ball to Sane, who created space with brilliant feet and eventually saw his cross converted by Francesco Acerbi for an own goal.

Lazio responded well and pulled one back on 50 minutes when Joaquin Correa forced his way into Bayern's box virtually unopposed and poked the ball past Manuel Neuer. That was the last of the scoring, however, as neither team could find a sixth in the match.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Manuel Neuer (GK) - 6/10 - Very rarely troubled, making just a few saves you'd expect him to make. Had little chance with the Lazio goal, having been let down by his defenders.

Niklas Sule (RB) - 8/10 - Okay, who are you and what have you done with Niklas Sule? The big man showed great threat in the first half, driving into the box with lovely feet and even showboated with a 'Ronaldo chop'. Was also competent defensively, making four ball recoveries and four clearances.

Jerome Boateng (CB) - 7/10 - Very lucky not to have had a penalty awarded against him, but did well to make a few key tackles and clearances in the box.

David Alaba (CB) - 7/10 - Defended solidly throughout, making four ball recoveries, but was probably most at fault for Lazio's goal, having been far too weak in the challenge.

Alphonso Davies (LB) - 8/10 - Did ever so well in the build up to the second goal, driving his side forward and getting the assist to the assist. Also showed his usual tenacity in tracking back, making four tackles.

2. Midfielders

Joshua Kimmich (CM) - 7/10 - Quietly kept his side ticking with his usual influential ways, maintaining a 93% pass accuracy and making five interceptions.

Leon Goretzka (CM) - 8/10 - A true powerhouse in the centre of the field, putting himself about and also racking up five interceptions. Also grabbed the assist for Bayern's second with a lovely poke through to Musiala.

Jamal Musiala (AM) - 7/10 - The 17-year-old became Bayern's youngest Champions League scorer with a beautifully controlled strike and generally showed real glimpses of quality, carrying the ball forward with great elegance at times.

3. Forwards

Leroy Sane (RW) - 8/10 - Very bright all night long and threatened when picking up the ball. Managed to get on the scoresheet with the simplest of finishes just before half time and forced the own goal for the fourth.

Robert Lewandowski (ST) - 7/10 - Was just too tough to handle for the Lazio back line. Should maybe have made more of the opportunities that came his way, but reacted really well to a sloppy back pass to snatch the opener and score his 34th goal of the season.

Kingsley Coman (LW) - 7/10 - A little quiet, but had electric periods throughout. Created the third with raw pace and power and started the counter attack that led to fourth with a lovely ball to release Sane.
