Leeds 3-1 Tottenham: Player ratings as Whites brush aside woeful Spurs
By Ross Jackson
Leeds produced a dominant display to notch the three points against Tottenham on Saturday afternoon with goals from Stuart Dallas, Patrick Bamford and Rodrigo securing a 3-1 win.
The home side edged ahead with just 13 minutes on the clock as Hugo Lloris pulled off a brilliant save to prevent Sergio Reguilon putting the ball into the back of his own net, though Dallas was on hand to fire home the loose ball.
The lead lasted little more than ten minutes as Dele Alli did superbly to slide Son Heung-min through on goal and the South Korean made no mistake in restoring parity for his side.
Both sides continued to push forward with Harry Kane denied a goal by a ridiculously tight offside call - but a correct one before we start VAR bashing - though it was Leeds who hit the front shortly before the interval as Bamford grabbed his 15th Premier League goal of a superb campaign.
Ryan Mason's side surged forward in search of an equaliser late on, though they were hit with a suckerpunch as the home team hit them on the counter and substitute Rodrigo slotted home to make it 3-1 to Leeds.
That's the match highlights done with, now to those Leeds and Spurs player ratings...
LEEDS PLAYER RATINGS
1. Goalkeeper & defenders
Illan Meslier (GK) - 7/10 - Little he could do about Son's equaliser. Produced a big save in the second half to stop Serge Aurier's deflected cross finding the back of the net.
Luke Ayling (RB) - 5/10 - Caught out by the cuteness of Kane as he followed the run of the England man and subsequently gave Son the freedom of Elland Road to fire Spurs level. Surged forward often with little in the way of a final ball.
Diego Llorente (CB) - 7/10 - Has been excellent for Leeds in the last few months and yet again produced a dominant display at the back, winning a number of headers late in the game.
Pascal Struijk (CB) - 7/10 - Fantastic block to deny Son's goal-bound effort in the second half. Stood tall as Spurs flooded forward late on and was a big part of the win.
Ezgjan Alioski (LB) - 7/10 - Great play in the build-up to Leeds' second as he provided an overlap and gave Bamford a simple tap-in. Filled in well at left-back when asked to this season.
2. Midfielders
Robin Koch (DM) - 7/10 - Picked up a booking in the second half after a 'professional' foul on Son. Looked to prevent Kane dropping deep and dictating the game and he did it wll.
Stuart Dallas (RM) - 7/10 - Emphatically fired the ball home as Leeds hit the front. Was busy all game and helped to flood the midfield after moving inside later in the game.
Mateusz Klich (CM) - 7/10 - Did well to support Bamford and ensured the frontman wasn't isolated with some darting late runs into the box.
Tyler Roberts (CM) - 5/10 - Picked up some nice positions in between the Spurs defence and midfield but struggled to provide any real sort of quality when in them. Withdrawn with less than an hour played.
Jack Harrison (LM) - 7/10 - Tasked with supporting Bamford and completing a lot of defensive work and he did a very good job of it.
3. Forward
Patrick Bamford (ST) - 8/10 - Looked sharp early on and was unlucky not to open the scoring. Eventually got his goal to put Leeds 2-1 up. Constantly dropping deep to link up play with the midfield and was integral to Leeds' good display.
4. Substitutes
Raphinha (LM) - 6/10
Rodrigo (ST) - 7/10 - Lovely finish to secure the three points for Leeds late on.
Kalvin Phillips (CM) - N/A
TOTTENHAM PLAYER RATINGS
5. Goalkeeper & defenders
Hugo Lloris (GK) - 9/10 - Very good early save to deny Bamford and was hugely unlucky to see his even better save a few minutes later fall to Dallas who slotted home the rebound. Leeds could have been three up by half-time were it not for his superb agility.
Serge Aurier (RB) - 5/10 - Caught out defensively on a couple of occasions but in fairness he was hung out to dry by the Spurs midfield.
Eric Dier (CB) - 3/10 - Some truly tragic defending at the front post on a number of occasions. Stood like he was waiting for a kettle to boil as Bamford walked past him to put Leeds 2-1 up.
Toby Alderweireld (CB) - 6/10 - Picked out some lovely long diagonals to open up the play. Defended better than his centre-back partner but that's not a huge compliment.
Sergio Reguilon (LB) - 5/10 - Couldn't sort his feet out as Leeds opened the scoring and then didn't react to the rebound after Lloris had prevented him putting through his own net.
6. Midfielders
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (CM) - 5/10 - Usually helps to knit things together and keeps things ticking over but he found himself outnumbered and had very little impact on the game.
Giovani Lo Celso (CM) - 5/10 - Couldn't really get a foothold in the contest and spent the majority of it being completely overrun by the Leeds midfield.
Dele Alli (AM) - 7/10 - Looked lively early on and was key to Spurs' equaliser. His influence on the game began to wane a little in the second period by all in all a good display.
7. Forwards
Gareth Bale (RW) - 4/10 - Consistency has been sorely lacking from his loan spell at the club and this was evident once again after his hat-trick against Sheffield United last time out. Barely influenced proceedings and looked off the pace all game before being hooked.
Harry Kane (ST) - 7/10 - One of the most nonchalant finishes you're ever likely to see in the first half but was ruled out for the most marginal of offsides. Saw another goal ruled out for offside later in the game and hit the crossbar. Good performance without the goal to show for it.
Son Heung-min (LW) - 7/10 - Cool finish to open Spurs' account for the afternoon. Probably should have done better with an effort that he fired into the side netting in the second half but he's beginning to look back to his old self in recent weeks.
8. Substitutes
Erik Lamela (LW) - 5/10
Lucas Moura (AM) - 5/10
Tanguy Ndombele (CM) - N/A
